Ice Kings

The Pucking Bad Boy

A secret baby romance where a one-night stand from a masked party collides with the cocky hockey star who doesn’t know he’s a father…yet.

When she finds out her dad wants her to marry the club owner’s son, she feels she and Alex, who needs reputation help, can help each other. They pretend to be dating but it starts to be more than a ruse when Brittany becomes pregnant.

The Pucking Fake Marriage

Charlie grew up next door to Kali and Ken, she was best friends with Ken and dating Kali. Ken’s barbells are left at the top of the stairs, this causes Charlie to fall as does her dreams of being a dancer. Years later she about to lose her restaurant, she goes to Vegas and get Ken drunk and they get married. She believes that will be enough to get money from the bank, but it is not that easy. Now she has to tell him what she did and why.

The Pucking Grump

Faye is a popstar that all her songs are about love, but she finds him and her stepsister together on the day of her wedding. She runs from the church and runs into Blake White, a hockey player that hates her music. Before he realizes it he is helping her get away. The start a fake relationship with benefits, they start to catch feelings and Blake blows it.

The nation was done well but since the books are told in dual pov, it was have been better to have a man and woman narrate.

Great narration and writing style

Great narration combined with a uniquely interesting writing style… writing is entertaining. The characters are relatable but flawed. They are redeeming enough to want an HEA but the males are bad enough to be attractive.

Enjoyable

I liked these stories about the hockey guys finding love. The one thing that bugged me was the order they were listed in the set.
Timeline wise I feel like 2143 would’ve worked better. And if I come back that’s the order I’ll listen to it. :)

Wonderful Series

The narrators did a wonderful performance. They really added to the experience of these books. A J Summers has written a hockey series about dominant, possessive but very lovable men who find love. I really enjoyed each couple and their struggles are so real. It is so hard to pick a fave cause each couple and trope keep you hooked till the end. I highly recommend this must read series.

For The Pucking Fake Marriage

I previously listened to the audiobook The Pucking Grump and didn't like it (original review below). I didn't like the male lead and I didn't care for the narrator. But when I got the opportunity to get my hands on the boxset, I was interesting in The Pucking Fake Marriage and decided to give it another try.

I really liked this one. I love the fake marriage trope, so I couldn't wait to see how it would play out. I liked both Charlie and Ken and the dynamic and history between them. I was quickly hooked. Thankfully this is a different narrator than Grump. I thought Shane Martinez did a good job with the female characters. Male characters were okay. Not a convincing male voice- though I understand how difficult that can be for female narrators.

Overall: 4 stars
Performance: 3 stars
Story: 4 stars

I didn't listen to Bad Boy or Boyfriend at the time of this review, but here is my original review of The Pucking Grump-

This storyline at its basic plot isn't a new one for me- though usually it involves a mountain man instead of a hockey player. Popstar Faye is famous and this was supposed to be the 'wedding of the century,' until she found her fiancé cheating on her with her step sister, no one else seemed to care, and he had no remorse or guilt. So she ran. There is more to her situation, and the more we learn of it, the sadder her story is. I didn't really like Blake at all. From his first chapter I found him judgmental, cynical, cold, and very quick to make assumptions in a condescending way. I honestly wondered if he would have helped her if he didn't find her attractive. They were clearly meant to be seen as opposites, and while I usually like a grumpy character, he never grew on me. Being this was enemies-to-lovers, I didn't care for their dynamic. Honestly, I stopped listening after a while.

This is the first book I've listened to narrated by Martina Ciccia. She did fine with the female voices, but not so well with the male. I can understand that it's hard for a female narrator to deepen her voice convincingly for the male characters. I just find it distracting because if I were mocking a man's tone of voice, I would talk in that same tone. So it's harder for me to take seriously.

Ice Kings

The Pucking Bad Boy
Cat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Reggie and Harper
Genre- Sports Romance (Hockey)
Heat- 5/5 with some d/s
Safety? Y
Triggers- Sex, Speedos
Tropes- Adorable Moppet, Forced Proximity, Journalist, One Night Stand, Secret Baby
Mewsings
What I thought about the story- If you hold on, Reggie actually becomes likable. But I don’t like that it was the miracle of facing his past via a reporter that did it instead of therapy. That seemed too convenient. Still, the story was pretty good and it was very hawt.
What I thought about the narrator- the narrator was fine, but not great. I think this story calls for dual narration.

The Pucking Fake Boyfriend
Cat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Alex and Britney
Heat- 3/5 with the risk of getting caught
Safety? Y
Triggers- Childhood Emotional Trauma, Paparazzi, Language, Sex
Tropes- Brother’s Best Friend, Fake Relationship, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Surprise Pregnancy, Iced Out, Reformed Man Ho-Ho-Ho.
Mewsings
I thought it was very interesting how manipulative a person Brit really was. She wore her meekness like prey animals wear their protective coloring. I would have respected her more if she had been upfront with Alex about her dad’s machinations, but every story needs drama. I couldn’t hate her for it, though, and I admired her for her tenacity. I liked Alex and the fact that he was a lot more complex than he let on.
What I thought about the narrator- the narrator was fine, but not great. I think this story calls for dual narration.

The Pucking Fake Marriage
Cat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Ken and Charlie
Heat- 5/5; they do the things and use the P word.
Series? Y
Safety? Y
Triggers- violence, language, sex
Tropes- Waking Up Married, Marriage of Convenience, Hockey Players Are Cool, Ex’s Brother, Dysfunctional Family FTW, Ebil Ex, Twins Are Double the Heartache
What I Liked- The sex scenes were incredibly, totally hot! I can’t stress that enough.
What I didn’t- she really needed to stand up for Ken more often.
What I thought about the narrator- I found her voice really annoying and though the story was very good, the narration made listening to it feel like listening to fingernails on a blackboard.

The Pucking Grump
Cat’s Stats
MMC/FMC- Blake (pro hockey player) and Faye (a singing star)
Genre- Hybrid Contemporary Romance (Sports and Rockstar)
Heat- 5/5 and their chemistry is insane
Series? Y
Safety? Y
Triggers- Explicit erotic content, gaslighting, paparazzi
Tropes- Runaway Bride, Groom-Cheating-With-The-Bridesmaid Trope, Fake Relationship, Grumpy/Sunshine, Enemies to Lovers, Relationship Shy, Dysfunctional Family FTW
Mewsings
Last year, I read Britney Spears’ memoir. So it was interesting to me to read this book, with a pop star FMC whose father is her manager. Especially when he set her up and made her look mentally unstable. So that if she fired him, he would control the narrative and could potentially get legal and practical control over her through a conservatorship. This really resonated with
me because of Spears’ autobiography and how it happened to her (her father alleges that Spears is mentally ill while Spears maintains that, although she had postpartum depression, she is not and has never been mentally ill. She alleges that her father used her postpartum depression to get control over her in a conservatorship which lasted 13 years). This made Faye’s actions understandable. I really felt for the character. And I was rooting for her for the whole book. This was a good book because it kept me interested, connected me with the main character, and made me think. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that Blake’s resistance to love made him pretty unsympathetic and difficult to empathize with. I liked the ending, though, and Blake did redeem himself somewhat.
What I thought of the narration- after listening to the narrator of The Pucking Fake Marriage, this was like nirvana. Still would have benefited from dual narration, though.
