About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Jennifer Sucevic comes a sexy college sports romance collection featuring three hockey playing hotties.

Hate to Love You

Brody McKinnon is Whitmore University's star defenseman destined for NHL greatness. As much as it pains me to admit it, he’s exploded at the college level.

Unfortunately for me, I’m about to experience the worst week of my life.

It starts with my ex announcing at a party that I’m a lousy lay.

Want to guess who rides in on his trusty white steed to rescue me? Or should I say, opens his big mouth?

Yup, you guessed it. Brody freaking McKinnon, the guy I love to hate.

He only makes matters worse by telling everyone that we’re together and then punching Reed in the face.

Now I’m stuck fake-dating Brody, the one guy who makes me feel like a rabid dog on a choke chain, for the foreseeable future.

Just Friends

Emerson and I met freshman year of high school, and we’ve been tight ever since.

I’ve been pretty good about keeping her locked in the "girls I don’t think about having sex with" part of my brain.

Luckily for me, Southern University has an overabundance of Red Devils hockey groupies, which means there are always plenty of puck bunnies for me to choose from.

I’m just careful to make sure they look nothing like Em.

So, it should be all good in the hood, right?

Wrong.

The Breakup Plan

Grayson McNichols can have his pick of girls on this campus. Just ask him and he’ll tell you that the females of Hillsdale University have a real penchant for sexy, hockey-playing hotties. Hell, all he has to do is flash a smile in their direction and they fall right onto their backs and spread their legs.

Would I happen to be one of them?

I’m going to plead the fifth on that one.

*This is a collection of three stand-alone novels.*

Stand alones

These three stories are stand alones with no cross over. With each book I had to get into a new mindset to meet new characters. They were all good, but I would have loved cross over or continuation of characters. There was a strange character introduction/chapter at the end of book 3 that was a little confusing. The male narrator got a little nasally while reading the female characters but he was awesome for the male characters. For the most part, cute stories with fun banter and nice narration! Recommend!

Frustrating don’t waste the credit

I wonder sometimes if an author remembers what being a young adult was like or if the write the characters based on what they assume. The first book is so frustrating to listen to because me and my friends would have never reacted as the main character especially when the author is characterizing her as strong. I will return

Missing chapters

Would have been good to know the stories were not connected at all. The third book is missing chapters and has a mystery chapter in it. Don’t think young adult would have been this reactive.

I love hockey romance...just not this one. I tried

I made it about a 10th of the way into the first story in the book but got totally turned off by the main characters. In the very beginning you start out with Brody entering his house to find an impromtu party going on. There's a semi-detailed description of a girl grinding on a hockey player's lap on the couch with everyone around them and she proceeds to take her clothes off in front of everyone then they start making out and putting on a show. Brody goes on about how NOT turned on he is even when a girl comes up and grabs his crotch leaving him completely soft. He speculates how there's only 1 girl that does it for him any more. Natalie Davies. So he leaves the party to go study. Ok, off to a rocky start with the public sex show but maybe it won't be so bad. Then that's ruined when he opens the door to a couple of half naked puck bunnies offering a 3-some which he invites them in and takes them up on it. YUP. That was strike one. Follow that up with his tendency to yank Natalie's chain just so rile her up because he likes her. This continues on with Brody thinking about how much he like Natalie and Natalie mentally bad mouthing him silently while refusing to admit he's attractive to prevent feeding his already overblown ego. Outwardly, she insults him, pelts him with french fries when he helps himself to her plate, and goes out of her way to avoid him. This is starting to sound more like a jr. high romance at this rate, despite the public nudity and sex acts. That's strike two. Strike three came when Natalie is publicly humiliated by a a**hole who not only announced to one and all that he played her just to get her to give up her virginity, but that she was a lousy lay...and she lets that affect her. Next thing you know we're revisiting the school yard again when Brody punchs the guy and starts a fight. ok. I'm done. This is an official DNF.

Now for the narration. I didn't recognize either of their names, so they could be new. That being the case I'm going to try and be kind. Michael was not bad but seemed to have trouble with his feminine voices. He needs to pull his voice out of his nose when he's reading a "she" part because it does not sound good at all and grates on the nerves. I enjoyed listening to his male character representations. He did a good job with those. Jennifer needs to work on her pitch, breathing, and timing. She struggled with differentiating character voices so they all kinda sounded the same. She also sounded like she was constantly out of breath and gasping. There were times she sounded like she needed a drink of water badly. Her timing always felt rushed. She had trouble identifying punctuation and how to read it and had a tendency to run her paragraphs together. I think with some practice and feedback they both could become good narrators.
