Publisher's summary

p>You don't have to be a mechanical genius to be an inventor. Anyone can invent - a parent wrestling with a baby sling...a coach frustrated with slick-soled running shoes...an office worker determined to keep the computer cords untangled. Inventing is simply finding clever solutions to everyday challenges. Author and inventor Patricia Nolan-Brown has turned common annoyances into ingenious and money-making products.

She shares the tricks of her trade in Idea to Invention, a practical guide that helps ordinary people look at their world with the eyes of an inventor. Readers will learn six simple steps to invention - and discover: How they rate on six crucial personality traits; creativity habits that spark invention; the power of tape-and-paper prototypes to refine their vision; how to navigate the ins and outs of licensing and patenting their product; the pros and cons of finding a licensed manufacturer vs. running a home-based assembly line; how to promote their invention-from perfecting the pitch and finding store buyers to trade-show shortcuts and strategies for creating buzz online; and product enhancements that add years to shelf life.

From initial concept to thriving business, this handy guide simplifies the invention process and gives creative thinkers the competitive edge they need to achieve success.

Started Off Slow But...

What made the experience of listening to Idea to Invention the most enjoyable?

What made the experience of listening to the book the most enjoyable was being able to listen anywhere by downloading to my Iphone.

What did you like best about this story?

The best about this story was that she went into detail about what she did to get her products off the ground. This isn't a fluffy, vague story. She gets specific. This really helps. If you are serious, you should skip to chapter 10 and prepare to take plenty of notes. The first 9 chapters are more about your mental state and preparing yourself to be an inventor/entrepreneur. I have already decided that I am serious so when re-listening to the book I skip the first 9 chapters. If you are not sure if inventing is for you then you should listen to the first 9.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This is how I did it.

Great book. Very informative. Very well read!

The narrator did a very good job of reading the book. The book had a lot of very helpful information and it was easy to digest. I I listened to it in one sitting and plan on listening to it again whilst taking notes.

You can skip the first 10 chapters at least.

The first step is higher a patent attorney.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this writer hired an editor to cut out all the repetitive hoopla in it. It took her about 12 chapters to state the first step of hiring a patent attorney.

Do not trust reviews or description

This book teaches you nothing. Instead it goes on and on about useless stuff like speaking up, believing in yourself and your idea, etc. Nothing of substance.
