About this listen

Love hurts

He promised to kill her. One night four years ago, Leah Carson's husband almost succeeded. Philip stabbed her 23 times before fleeing. The police are sure he's dead. But fear won't let Leah believe it.

And sometimes

It starts with little things. Missing keys. A flat tire. Mysterious flowers. All easily explained away if the pattern wasn't so terrifyingly familiar. Leah has a new veterinary practice and a new life with no ties to her nightmare. But Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent Alex Morgan suspects something. And when another woman's body is found, stabbed 23 times, Leah knows her past has found her.

It kills

As Leah and Alex untangle the horrifying truth, he watches her, ready for the perfect moment. Until death - that was the vow they made. And a killer always keeps his word....

My story is not as violent as Leah's, but violent enough to see how well this tells the story of domestic violence survivors. I couldn't put it down! I love the sarcastic humor of the characters and how I was guessing until the end.

trigger warning- domestic violence

The narrators voice or inflection was off somehow. How she pronounced words or something about it just got on my nerves. The book was very good though.

Good book, annoying narrator

Any additional comments?

This is a good story and worth the listen. I probably should have listen to the series in order though.

Good mystery with a great end

I don't often write book reviews because i know everyone has different tastes and what one person likes may not be another person's cup of tea.

I am going to say that despite this being a part of a series I considered not listening to it all the way thru because of the narrator's performance. Her pace was faster than many other narrators I have listened too, but fortunately audible allows you to adjust the speed, so I got past that. Her enunciation was too hard and clipped. she had an accent or maybe lack of it that made it hard to feel like the story and characters were actually in Nashville. Also her male voices were very hard to distinguish who was "talking" when it was more than one male in the conversation. I feel like this dragged the novel down some. I was able to continue listening but did have to pause and rewind a few times to make sure I was getting things right.

I personally enjoyed this story because I like mystery suspense stories. This one was not too predictable and had enough a twist to keep you guessing. I do not have personally experience with how a victim of a stalker would feel or act but I felt like the story gave a credible outline.

This book is part of a series but can be read alone, although you do get to meet some of the characters from the other books and if you want to keep their storyline straight you may want to read them in order.

I hope this helps

good story difficult narration

The book was great kept me thinking and nervous for the main character. I did not like narrator she had the same voice for each male character and it wasn’t good.

Good!
