About this listen

"Treacherously beautiful and dazzlingly romantic. This book will steal your breath and your heart!"–Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Once Upon A Broken Heart

A young ruler must forge a delicate alliance with the enigmatic God of War to protect her kingdom in this stunning romantic fantasy filled with dangerous secrets, forbidden magic, and passion, from Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess

The young heir to a mortal crown, Liyen ascends a precarious throne when her grandfather dies, vowing to end her kingdom’s obligation to the immortals and take vengeance against those she feels responsible for his death. When she is summoned to the Immortal Realm, she seizes the opportunity to learn their secrets and to form a tenuous alliance to safeguard her people, all with the one she should fear and mistrust the most: the ruthless God of War. As they are drawn together, a treacherous attraction ignites between them—one she has to resist, to not endanger all she is fighting for.

But with darker forces closing in around them, and her kingdom plunged into peril, Liyen must risk everything to save her people from an unspeakable fate, even if it means forging a dangerous bond with the immortal… even if it means losing her heart.

Pretty Good

This was very good for a fast read. Not a ton of world building and the beginning is hard to get through but it picks up speed by the middle

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Disappointed with this standalone, especially when the Daughter of the Moon Goddess duology was INCREDIBLE. This book is set in the same world as the duology but focuses on FMC mortal ruler, Liyen, and the MMC immortal god of war, Zhangwei….. essentially, their relationship felt super rushed, with big feelings and declarations after like…. 2 days? The world building was still very elaborate, but it felt overshadowed by the drama surrounding (imo) low-stakes betrayals and weird pacing. It took nearly 75% of the book to understand what the point of the first 74% was and then the ending was so action packed but I felt no connection with the fate of the characters.

Beautiful Story with Slow Start

I’m glad I stuck with this book because it was getting fairly iffy there for a minute. I enjoyed the beginning but then found the FMC (Liyen) extremely annoying and petulant — while, unbelievably, the MMC seemed to be in love with her. However, at about 75% of the way into the book, things started happening and pieces were coming together. A lot of this redeemed the tedious middle of the story and I ended up being glad that I read it. I did like Sue Lynn Tan’s writing style and would definitely read another book by this author.

Excellent story telling!

I love Natalie, she is great at story telling! The story itself was good although nothing compared to Daughter of the Moon Goddess. Still a good read for those who enjoy romance, magic and immortality incorporations!

Enjoyable!

Tan has been a favorite author for a while and this story was lovely. However, I’m disappointed Tan broke from her clean stories and wrote sex scenes in Immortal. Her writing was stellar without the smut. I feel she lowered her standards and dimmed the brightness of her pen by doing so.

Beautiful story, amazing performance

Sue Lynn Tan strikes again with this one. I had just finished up all of her other works (twice) and wasn't quite ready to part ways with the Celestial Kindgom yet and then I was so excited to see that Immortal was released.
This story was beyond amazing, and performed beautifully by Natalie Nautus. I found myself finding tasks to do so that I could listen to more of the book I was so drawn in from the very first chapter.
The journey that this book takes you on and the feelings that you will endure are like no other, I highly recommend!

Great plot!

Really enjoyed the story and character development. Felt like I was watching a fantasy Chinese drama!

Love this book

Exciting new story in the same universe as daughter of a moon goddess series. I hope there is another one! Thanks again Sue Lynn Tan your writing never disappoints!

Repetitive and predictable, an author without a new story to tell

Leans too heavily on the tropes, plot lines, and characterizations of her previous series. If you’ve read Daughter of the Moon Goddess this standalone feels stale and unoriginal in comparison. A lack of originality from an author I thought had more potential.
