About this listen
Modern slavery is happening all around you...and you can be part of the solution.
Human trafficking is not just something that happens in other countries. Nor is it something that just happens to "other people", such as runaways or the disenfranchised. Even kids in your own neighborhood can fall victim. But they don't have to.
Through true stories and expertise from her many years of boots-on-the-ground experience, anti-trafficking expert Nita Belles teaches you everything you need to know about human trafficking in the United States - helping you identify risk factors, take practical steps to keep your loved ones and neighbors safe from predators, and recognize trafficking around you so that you can help fight it.

Story
I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

Story
The average age of entry into prostitution in America is 13-years-old. Forced into a life they never chose, manipulated, abused, and tortured at the hands of the pimps who control them, our country's children are sold on the streets, on the internet, and at truck stops across America every night. They aren't bad kids who made bad choices. They are victims of child sex trafficking. They come from our neighborhoods, our schools, our churches, and sometimes our own homes.

Story
My name is Savannah Miller. My father is the mayor of New York. One day, after my 27th birthday, I was grabbed from behind. A cloth sack was quickly pulled over my head, and I was taken from everything I'd ever known. I was beaten, starved, treated like an animal, and forced to live in a room with no windows. With no sense of time and no dignity left, I finally gave up hope and made a promise to myself to end it all. Unfortunately, it was going to be a slow process.

Story
TrafficKing uncovers a child sex trafficking case of epic proportions and the longest-running human trafficking case in US legal history - more poignant than the Lewinsky case, Watergate scandal, and Profumo affair combined. Eleven years after the registered level-3 sex offender was arrested, four cases associated with his 2005 criminal investigation remain open. The pedophile was not prosecuted under The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), a law enacted in Florida in 2000. In this gripping exposé, Sarnoff finds out why.

Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism when she found an unexpected lifeline: a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office in New York City. The second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan, she was the first to last more than three months. The work was gritty, demanding, morbid, and sometimes dangerous—and she loved it. In What the Dead Know, she writes with the kind of New York attitude and bravado you might expect from decades in the field, investigating more than 5,500 death scenes, 680 of which were homicides.

Shyima Hall was born in Egypt on September 29, 1989, the seventh child of desperately poor parents. When she was eight, her parents sold her into slavery. Shyima then moved two hours away to Egypt's capitol city of Cairo to live with a wealthy family and serve them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima's servitude - but her journey to true freedom was far from over.

Good Message, But...
the stories turn into speeded up cartoons of good little Christian girls who pay the price for one disobedience to their parents (horrors like buying a low cut shirt mom and dad forbad) by ending up turning heroin tricks in back alleys. Even if these are true tales, they are so poorly told they seem made up.

INFORMATIVE
I really enjoyed ready this book. I feel better informed about human trafficking issues after reading it and am further motivated to do whatever I can to help bring awareness and make use of my money and votes in a way that will impact the end of this human atrocity. I want to help. I'm continuing to research, I've found a friend with the same passion and we are going to educate ourselves and others and together do whatever we can. I would love to be contacted by the author for direction on how to proceed for the most impact. But I will reach out if I don't hear from her. I would also like a list of statistics from the book. They were informative and I'd like to have them memorized so that I can effectively communicate to others the magnitude of this horror.

The need for good people to do something
I’ve learned from this book it’s crucial to educate children of the dangers before they get tricked. A really good way would be for this to be part of the school curriculum instead of CRT, which divides us into identity groups. Such awareness education about human trafficking would do so much good.
