About this listen

Sex trafficking is currently a hot news topic, but it is not a new problem or just a problem in "other" countries. Every year, an estimated 80,000 American children are lured into the sex trade, some as young as eight years old. It is thought that up to 90 percent of victims are never rescued. Stolen is the true story of one survivor who escaped - more than once. First recruited while staying with her family at a hotel in Miami Beach, Katariina Rosenblatt was already a lonely and abused young girl who was yearning to be loved. She fell into the hands of a confident young woman who pretended friendship but slowly lured her into a child prostitution ring. For years afterward, a cycle of false friendship, threats, drugs, and violence kept her trapped. As Kat shares her harrowing experiences, listeners will quickly realize the frightening truth that these terrible things could have happened to any child - a neighbor, a niece, a friend, a sister, a daughter. But beyond that, they will see that there is real hope for the victims of sex trafficking. Stolen is more than a warning. It is a celebration of survival that will inspire.

It is shocking how easy for kids to fall prey to crafty sex traffickers. The sad thing is that in some cases we parents put our kids in danger when we don't pay attention to how we rise them.
I like that the story goes into details on pitfalls kids run into to end up in the sex trade. It also brings into light measures that can be taken to prevent and rescue these kids including faith based solutions.
The more we're aware of this and other issues like it there's hope that we can make a dent in rescuing and solving these problems.

Shocking , Enlightening and Hopeful

The title of the book is VERY misleading. Stolen. The beginning of the book starts out ok & you can see why she does what she does. She's very repetitive, but I'm guessing she's trying to nail home to those who don't understand the why's wherefores that young girls fall for this. Buuut, she, as a person, is never stolen. He virtue, her childhood, her virginity, etc, is stolen, but that is not what is implied in the title. Then the last half of the book is just about her marriage & setting up foundations.

It's OK

This book was very informative of how easy it is to trap young people into this world that should not be here. And this was happening before we knew what this was. This book has made me aware of what could go on in my neighborhood. And it also shed light on situations that leads women into undesirable and low self-esteem workplaces that I have more compassion for them. People working with young people should read this to recognize behaviors to help them.

It’s easier than I thought

*reader notice, of graphic details of abuse and prostitution
An absolutely breathtaking tale of a girl’s journey through abuse, then human traffic and sex slavery. A must-read to educate yourself, to protect others, and being justice

Breathtaking

The story was sad but powerful. Then it became heavier and heavier with professing love for God. I wish I had known it would be a religious story so I could’ve skipped it. I think the story could’ve been told without such heavy religious pushing. The book was a good bait and switch. It started off as what I expected but the halfway through turned into a book about how God saved her life and God was great, and God this and that. I think you get the picture. A moving story if you can get past the religious rain.

Well written and good information about how child trafficking works and can happen anywhere and to anyone.

An eye opener for sure.

What did you love best about Stolen?

The whole story engaged the listener/reader the whole time. I liked the way that the author told her story in a humbling way and didn't really put blame on anyone for how things turned out, but saw that God had His eye on her the whole time.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a story of growth.

What does Kirsten Potter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She kind of read this as if my mom were reading ti to me using good expression, but nothing overly impressive. I have heard her narrate before and had enjoyed how she did the other book much better, but this one was well done regardless.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not really interested in tag lines....especially one about sex trafficking and its sad tale.

Any additional comments?

Keep in mind that this book is going to talk about sexual things, though not in much detail at all. This is definitely teen appropriate as it explains that the acts were done but not explicitly. Throughout the entire story, God is revealed and it is an honest account of how a child cn come out whole after much brokenness.

An amazing story that captivates me completely
