Publisher's summary

Shocking, eye-opening and grimly fascinating, these are the true stories, patients and cases that have characterised a career spent treating mentally disordered offenders.

Listen to the end of the audiobook for an exclusive bonus chapter, written and read by the author.

As a forensic psychiatrist, it's Dr Das' job to treat and rehabilitate what the tabloids might call the 'criminally insane', many of whom assault, rob, rape and even kill. His work takes him to high-security prisons and securely locked hospital wards across the country, as well as inside courtrooms, giving evidence as an expert witness.

From the young woman who smothered her two-year-old nephew in a flash of psychosis, to the teenager who set his house on fire with his mother locked inside, Dr Das must delve into the minds of these violent offenders to elicit their symptoms of mental illness, understand their actions and prevent future atrocities.

In this honest, revealing and at times humorous memoir, Dr Das shares stories from his 15 years as a psychiatric doctor working with this dangerous clientele, detailing some of his most extreme, heart-breaking and bizarre cases - and how he's learned to live with his mistakes when the worse happens.

Compelling, enlightening and candid, if you enjoyed Unnatural Causes, Dark Side of the Mind or The Prison Doctor, you'll love In Two Minds.

A Unique Perspective

Very enjoyable! I frequently listen to “A Psych For Sore Minds” on YouTube. I enjoy Dr Sohom Das’s voice and his delivery on a difficult subject - the vast eccentricities of the human mind. I believed this book would give me a clearer understanding of his work as a forensic psychiatrist and as a human being - and it hasn’t disappointed. I’m looking forward to Dr Das’s next book.

Interesting tale of the mind

Dr Das has written a very interesting book about his career as a forensic psychiatrist. This book was selected for our book club and I'm glad it was. It was brutal at times, sometimes clinical, sometimes made me laugh (not at patients at his parenting quips or his standup career highlights). He is extremely sensitive to the turmoil his patients have gone through, while also mentioning that he is not minimizing the anguish the patients victims have suffered either.
I was fortunate to do my psych rotation for nursing school at a forensic unit. I sat and net with the patients, went through my planned activities with them, and only then was I allowed to look at their charts. I was surprised to see their crimes of arson, kidnapping, murder, etc. It taught me that these are human beings and we as health care professionals should never judge them. I treat the patient and the illness, not what they've done. I wish others in my profession would take that into consideration as well.
I listened to the audiobook, which Dr Das read himself. His voice is very soothing and I love a good accent so I was all about this one. One thing...he got punched in the head once. He mentioned it about a half dozen times at least. I know every nurse out there is rolling their eyes with me. I'm not even in psych and how many times have I been hit, punched, kicked, spit on, etc ha ha
j/k I really enjoyed the book. It's a great listen or read.

Great Case Histories!

I have followed Dr. Das on many different crime shows. I am huge fan and this book doesn’t disappoint. He doesn’t come off as arrogant and is honest about his fears/concerns throughout his career. The cases and his down-to-earth attitude make this book an interesting listen.

Very interesting!

I liked how the author told about the characteristics of the mental illness as well as the patient stories.

Biased view of psychiatry.

The author clearly sees everything through a critical race theory lens. This spoils the whole story.
