About this listen

From the cave walls at Lascaux to the last painting by Van Gogh, from the works of Shakespeare to those of Mark Twain, there is clear evidence that crows and ravens influence human culture. Yet this influence is not unidirectional, say the authors of this fascinating book: people profoundly influence crow culture, ecology, and evolution as well.

John Marzluff and Tony Angell examine the often surprising ways that crows and humans interact. The authors contend that those interactions reflect a process of "cultural coevolution." They offer a challenging new view of the human-crow dynamic - a view that may change our thinking not only about crows but also about ourselves.

In the Company of Crows and Ravens takes a close look at the influences people have had on the lives of crows throughout history and at the significant ways crows have altered human lives. This book illuminates the entwined histories of crows and people and concludes with an intriguing discussion of the crow-human relationship and how our attitudes toward crows may affect our cultural trajectory.

This book was way more informative and in depth than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it kept my interest from cover to cover. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves birds and, of course, corvids in particular. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about crows, I bet you’ll learn something new here.

A well written exploration of Corvids

Inspired me to redouble my passion for the Corvid!

I live in rural Wyoming and have known. Numerous mating pair of ravens.

In the early summer many times the parents have brought the fledglings to to introduce them.

I have witnessed ravens bewildering reactions to the death of my father in law.
As they flew over following the coroner’s ambulance, raging as his remains were carried away.

Few animal interactions compare with those of the Raven.

More than I knew, and I knew a lot.

Consider skipping ahead to the appendix, which speaks to the scientist in all of us.

Excellent depth for science students.

Crows have always been such a mysterious thing to me. I have an instant dislike of them when I see them. I thought this book may give me a new view of them. it didn't. I gave up half way through.

I tried, I really tried to get through this book.
