About this listen

When a guest dies in the B&B she helps her aunts run, a young witch must rely on some good old-fashioned investigating to clear her aunt's name in this magical and charming new cozy mystery.

For 400 years, the Warren witches have used their magic to quietly help the citizens of the sleepy New England town of Evenfall thrive. There's never been a problem they couldn't handle. But then Constance Graves - a local known for being argumentative and demanding - dies while staying at the bed and breakfast Brynn Warren maintains with her aunts. At first, it seems like an accident...but it soon becomes clear that there's something more sinister at work, and Aunt Nora is shaping up to be the prime suspect.

There's nothing Brynn wants more than to prove Nora's innocence, and it hurts her to know that even two years ago, that might have been easier. Brynn, after all, is a witch of the dead - a witch who can commune with ghosts. Ghosts never remember much about their deaths, but Constance might remember something about her life that would help crack the case. But Brynn hasn't used her powers since her husband died and isn't even sure she still can. Brynn will just have to hope that her aunts' magic and her own investigative skills will lead her to answers - and maybe back to the gift she once thought herself ready to give up forever.

This book reeled me in with lovably relatable characters and a plot that left me guessing until the very end. In a book where the main character mourns a lost love I usually am left unsatisfied by the resolution for that heart break, however (Without spoiling one of the best book endings I have EVER read) I found myself letting out a sigh of relief at how content and truly happy the ending made me.
If you are looking for a good book this fall or anytime really, curl up with this fantastically cozy mystery.

I love storyline, the plot is well told and laid out. The anticipation of the mystery kept me intrigued! Also learned a little bit about some flower plant varieties I have never heard of.

This was a very sweet and cozy autumn book. I have listened to it twice. The characters are interesting, the mystery story line was great and the personal story line heart warming. I have downloaded the next book in this series. The narrator was paired very nicely with the characters in the book. She is very easy to listen to.

I loved this book

Honestly, this cozy book has so much to offer... mystery and magic, laughs and tears, it feels like there is something for everyone.

This book explores not only a mysterious death, but also the depth of loss, grief, and anger that people experience in life, and how they choose to handle it. The magical elements are lovely and make me want to be a part of the story's world, while the family dynamics between the main chatacter and her aunts and uncle makes me wish I was a part of the family.

10/10 Would Read Again

I've had a November run of bad luck with the recent books I tried reading, after a year of mostly stellar selections. After abandoning two extremely long Audible books halfway through, which is hard to do, I tried this one. It was better, but mostly disappointed me until the last third of the book, when it peaked my interest much more. The main character, Brynn, seemed like a young girl most of the time, were it not for the constant reference to her husband's death. The issue of sorrow over losing someone resonates a great deal with me, but wasn't really what I was looking for to escape at this time, to escape into a book and away from reality. I didn't like the other aunts at all, especially Nora. I feel the narration detracted, rather than enhanced the story. But the story did pick up. I feel my lack of enthusiasm is on my shoulders, not the fault of the author, of course. It definitely does not fit easily into the cozy murder mystery category. So many reviews say it is light, but not to me.

Disappointing, but last third more intriguing

A really fun and cozy book, perfect for the fall reader who’d like something a little witchy and maybe gently mysterious but not scary. I really enjoyed the cadence of the narrator; it was relaxing and enjoyable to listen to. Recommended!
