About this listen

In this spellbinding warm and cozy debut novel, a burned-out witch will need to turn to her friends and trust in herself to find the magic in her own life again.

Belladonna Blackthorn hasn’t lost her magical spark, precisely . . . but she hasn’t seen it in a while either.

With her witchcraft under wraps and a toxic boss making her days miserable, Belle is struggling to keep her beloved Lunar Books afloat and just make it through the day. The last thing she has time for is perfecting her magic.

So when her thirtieth birthday brings a summons from her coven and a trial that tests her worthiness as a witch, Belle fears the worst. With only the month of October left to prove herself or risk losing her magic forever, Belle will need all the help she can get—from the women in her life, from an unlikely mentor figure and even from an infuriating coven watchman who’s sworn to protect her...

Magical

I liked that it was a cute, cozy, easy read. It had enough going on that I wasn't bored but not so much that it stresses me out. Sometimes I had trouble deciphering who was talking because her voice for Rune and Belle were very similar.

cute easy read

This was one of the WORST main characters I've ever read about. For the entire book, she whined, complained, self-doubted, and just made the whole reading experience a drag. I did not like her. She hates herself to the point that it made me more annoyed than feeling sorry for her. I'm ugly, I can't do magic, I can't make decisions, I can't stand up for myself, I can't do anything right, I'm not smart... and so on and so on.

everything else would have been great. Magical tests to determine if you jeep your magic. GREAT BOOK IDEA. Make the trainer a murdering wizard. THAT'S EXCITING. But the MC just ruined it.

Narrator was good.

Main Character is terrible

I took a chance on this book, and I was really glad when I did. It became obvious very quickly that I was going to enjoy the storyline and the audio recording was very nicely done. It is refreshing to have a main character in this type of fiction actually be in their 30s instead of a teenager. Overall, just a really great little Reed.

Perfect, cozy, magical read

First thing this narrator is so great! I hope she narrates Lucy's next novels. I think she brought this story to life and honestly I think she made the audiobook more enjoyable than if I had just read the book version especially in the pivotal part of the story at the end. It starts a little slow but stick with it. It is a fun, easy read. Also a great message about making the most of the gifts you have within you. Looking forward to more from this author.

The story is good. It’s predictable, but with some unique elements that make it a worthwhile read. Solid cozy fantasy. The true standout performance, however, is the narrator. Absolutely fantastic narration. I was disappointed to see that she has only narrated a couple other books on Audible.

The narrator is amazing!
