About this listen

When a sniper killed his partner, Sean McPherson was injured in the ambush. Now an ex-cop, he takes a job at a writing retreat in the Pacific Northwest. At Pines & Quill, he hopes to heal and put his life back together in the Zen-like capacity of groundskeeper and all-around handyman.

Sniper, Jason Hughes, blames McPherson for the loss of more than 10 million dollars’ worth of heroinand he wants revenge.

In the guise of a New York City limo driver working on a sizzling tell-all memoir, Hughes arrives at Pines & Quill along with three other writers in residence: a bohemian psychic taking a break from grueling work as a forensic intuitive, a bitter divorcée who wants to open herself to a new life, and a vibrant and resilient potter navigating life from a wheelchair.

With conflicting agendas, uncertain loyalties, and romantic entanglements at play, Hughes finds it difficult to get McPherson in his sights. Gradually, he forms a different plan, one that threatens the lives of everyone at the retreat.

If you love small-town thrillers...

If you love small-town thrillers with a cast of easygoing endearing characters, this novel is for you!
The author created an inviting backdrop with a beautiful sensory-rich location set for a writers’ retreat, a story filled with history, curious facts, and a plethora of delicious meals served to the guests at the retreat. And I’m not surprised readers have reached out to the author hoping for the recipes. I would have loved to visit myself for the meals alone, minus the serial killer of course. Bad guy aside, I adored the characters so much that I spent much of the story worrying about who would be the next victim(s). I am grateful there are more books in this series so I can spend time with these characters again. Well done!

Exciting crime thriller

Indelible, Book One in Laurie Buchanan’s Sean McPherson series, is full of twists and turns like one of the wooded paths at Pines & Quill, the writing retreat where most of the action takes place. This is an adroit thriller, and Buchanan somehow manages among the quickening plot to weave in a tender love story that has the reader rooting for these characters and their future. She knows her players intimately, imbuing them with intriguing backstories that really bring them to life on the page. A deep level of detail, even down to the essential oil fragrances used in each writing cabin, makes it easy to get lost in the world of Indelible. Every chapter starts with writing quotes that really hit home. I appreciated that extra dose of inspiration.
