About this listen

Arizona, December 1943. After surviving perilous six-month journeys to 1889 and 1918, the Carsons, five siblings from the present day, seek a respite in their home state. While Adam and Greg settle down with their Progressive Era brides, Natalie and Caitlin start romances with wartime aviators, and Cody befriends a Japanese family in an internment camp.

The time travelers regroup, bury some ghosts, and continue their search for their missing parents. Then old problems return, new ones emerge, and a peaceful hiatus becomes a race for survival. In Indian Paintbrush, the sequel to River Rising and the Memory Tree, several young adults find love and adventure as they navigate the home front during the height of world war II.

Another great addition to the series

The Carson siblings are still in search of their time traveling parents.. this time, they are in 1940's Arizona, during the war.

With Greg, Adam and Cody at drafting age, they have to be very careful of how they conduct themselves. Both Natalie and Caitlin find their true loves, however, not all is a happy ending, and the past and past relationships creep back into their lives.

Their parents are in the same time stream, but can't find their kids..

One thing about John A Heldt's books are the accuracy of history, which I really enjoy.

Allyson Voller does a great job of narrations.

I really enjoyed this book of the series and can't wait for the next one

Exciting series

I received the audio version from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

This is the third in an exciting series by John A Heldt. The Carson clan continually finds themselves in hot spots and serious drama as they time travel through history. They spend their time making poor decisions in the name of true love and family. And the children of this family fall in love easily and often!
The novels are historical fiction, always incorporating important events of America’s past. But they are just as easily family dramas and romances. The author handles all of this very well. The story line is intriguing and keeps the reader’s interest throughout. This installment is a necessary and entertaining piece of the series.

Since this is audible, I will make a few comments about the narrator. The series seems to fluctuate between two, a male and female. This book has the female and she is acceptable with a few major flaws. She does not use accents when the novel clearly states a character has one, which is annoying since the male narrator does that well. Also, this female narrator sounds like she is on the verge of crying whether a character is happy, sad or indifferent. But as I stated previously, it is acceptable because the story is so well written.

Interesting historical time travel novel!!

I really enjoyed the time travel story idea for this book. It was historically correct and the Carson family were easy to love. There were some points in the book that I wanted to scream at one of the siblings to just stop talking or getting other people involved. It just seems it was a bit much to consider taking a whole family of Japanese from an internment camp during 1944, back to 2017. There were several "unwise" choices or mistakes that the family made, but all in all, It was a great book and I was sad to finish it. I am still wondering whether they ever find their parents, but was glad it finished with hope and some semblance of happiness for the Carson children.
