About this listen

It's 1947. War's over, cherry-print dresses, parking above the city lights, swing dancing. Beautiful, 17-year-old Violet lives in a perfect world. Everybody loves her.

In 2012, she's still beautiful, charming, and surrounded by admirers.

Veronica "Ronni" Johnson, licensed practical nurse and aspiring writer, meets the captivating Violet in the assisted living facility where Violet requires no assistance, just lots of male attention. When she dies, she leaves Ronni a very generous bequest - only if Ronni completes a book about her life within one year. As she's drawn into the world of young Violet, Ronni is mesmerized by life in a simpler time. It's an irresistible journey filled with revelations, some of them about men Ronni knew as octogenarians at Fairfield Springs.

Struggling, insecure, flailing at the keyboard, Ronni juggles her patients, a new boyfriend, and a Samsonite factory of emotional baggage as she tries to craft a manuscript before her deadline. But then the secrets start to emerge, some of them in person. And they don't stop.

Everything changes.

The story is compelling, although moves slowly for several chapters. The reader does a good job with voices,. A good choice for a light read.

A little predictable in some respects, but then from other angles this book will totally catch you off guard! It’s lighthearted and even giddy at some points. You’ll enjoy the old-fashioned lifestyle of Violet. She’s a doll and everyone loves her.

Exciting, intriguing, surprising!

I bought this book because the author is local and the book is set in my hometown of Anniston. There are turns and twists in this book that will keep you listening. I thought I had it all figured out only to be completely wrong! I highly recommend this book!

Loved this story. The performance was well done. The reader does change her voice for the different characters, but I thought she did it well.

It was a pleasant tour into another era, when people cared and love triumphed. A little getaway from the reality of the sad world we now live in,where all people care about is their own agenda. This book had love and heartache as well as devotion and unselfishness. I recommend it.
