About this listen

An omega with a mission. An alpha sworn to serve and protect. And an outbreak that will change both of their lives forever.

Dave Stanek has spent the past decade of his life trying to atone for his family’s sins. While his parents bilked thousands out of their life’s savings and tried to bring him into the family business, Dave has built a successful career in medicine as an infectious disease specialist at Silver Oak Medical Center.

Ken Sykora has seen a lot during his time in the Army and during his years on the force. When someone finds a vial at the scene of a meningitis outbreak, he’s obliged to consult with the Infectious Disease Specialist at Silver Oak Hospital.

When Dave is assigned a meningitis case one evening, he finds himself face to face with the most attractive alpha cop he’s ever seen – and neck-deep in a biological terror case.

Ken shares Dave’s attraction, notwithstanding the doctor’s superiority complex. Despite the gravity of the case they’re working, their mutual desire proves too much to contain. But when a night of pleasure leads to unintended consequences, they’ll have to decide if they can overcome their differences and build a life together – while catching a killer.

I really enjoyed this book as I have the entire series. This is a pretty low-angst book. The characters are believable, and you pull for them to figure everything out. I would recommend.

Another great book!

So I've been working my way through this series and have toughed it out with this particular narrator who has been really pretty bad so far but this one started out ok, not great by any means but better than previous in the series until we meet up with Dr. Idoni, for some reason Tiwanak thinks he's a deranged southern grandmother or something it's just horrible and kills it for me considering how pretty serious as a a character he is or at least that was how he came off to me from his own story. It's a shame because it's actually a pretty good series, you might want to just read it yourself though

Narration strikes again

This story is much shorter than the other Silver Oak stories in the series, but the story didn’t feel rushed. You didn’t feel like you were missing out on development of the characters or the main story.

Shorter but good

I really liked the storyline in this one: it's interesting, informative, and with lots of suspense. And both, Dave and Ken, are great characters, driven, focused and smart.

The romance has a good pace, neither of them rushes into a commitment when Dave gets pregnant, nor they run away screaming. They both act with maturity and decided to keep things going on and see where they lead them.

I knew who was the bad guy from the beginning, though. Nevertheless, this wasn't, IMHO, the main point of the story, so it didn't spoil it for me.

Kaeomakana Tiwanak does a good job with the narration.

A great plot

When an unexplained outbreak of meningitis hits the town, Silver Oak Medical Center is overwhelmed with contiguous patients. With outbreaks coming in waves, the Sheriff's office sends out a deputy to investigate.

Vials of the virus were discovered at a nursing home, and an apartment complex. Working with the hospital's infectious desease expert, it is found to be a deliberate case of murder.

Despite the urgency to find the culprit behind the deadly outbreaks, there is time for two people working closely together to begin a relationship.

Narrator Kaeomakana Tiwanak, a favorite of the author, builds the tension between a deputy trying to find the viral source and a doctor trying to stop the desease from spreading.

Dave stands up for what is right, and this recent outbreak will prove this again. Ken is the sheriff assigned to uncover who is purposefully exposing people to an infectious disease. They work great together professionally, Ken needs to learn to trust Dave and put his Alpha tendencies aside. Not a big fan of the narrator, but Carter was only in a quick scene because he make his Tennessee twang sound horrific.

More trouble for the medical staff at Silver Oak Medical Center. This book is full of action. A cute doctor finds time to fall in love with a police officer and they even catch the bad guy. This was an enjoyable book and series.
Narrator Kaeomakana Tiwanak does a wonderful job but the editing could have been better in a couple of places.

This book is an outstanding example of Mr. Bates writing skills. His character development, oblivious subject research and plot just flows so effortlessly that you almost feel like it is a real story torn from the front pages of the news or The good Lord forbid the latest terrorist plot! I was glued to his book from page one till the very end and when I connected my kindle to my car and listened to Mr. Tiwanak narration while I drove to Philadelphia it was a miracle that I got where I was going. I was so engrossed in this book that I do not remember anything about the trip at all. And that's not good as it is usually a 3 & 1/2 hour drive with construction from my home to my cousins and it took me 3 hours & 5 minutes. Don't know how or what I did to get there in that time frame. (It was a Sunday, maybe there was no construction, who knows) And I don't want to know! Anyway, please I am recommending this wonderful written series of books to anyone who enjoys a truly well written series of books full of love, true feelings, down to earth heart felt stories etc. An avid reader/listener in Rock Tavern, NY.

I have read this book. I thought listening to it would be a good idea, wrong! The narration was terrible. Some of the voices were unbrearable, others were plain funny and this was not comedy. I loved the book when I read it the first time. The version did not help the book, in fact the was made worse.

Not good
