About this listen

Churches are banned. Religion is outlawed. Freedom is dead.

Found guilty of “spreading dissent”, Jenna and David Hall are sentenced to re-education at the Innova Center.

Their home is forfeit. Their marriage is dissolved.

Once a famous actress, Jenna is afforded immunity from the most aggressive forms of therapy because they want something from her, but David is not so lucky.

He’s a hostage. Cooperation will keep him alive, but at what cost?

Interesting Thought Experiment

Note: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This short little novella is an interesting thought experiment. It is definitely in the realm of Christian Dystopian, think - later books in the Left Behind series. It really seems like it should be longer, or just a short prequel to a longer book. If you like Christian books, you could enjoy this, its not great literature, but its a good diversion. If you don't come from a Christian perspective, then I don't think you will enjoy it, it wasn't really written for you.

Short but Powerful

A powerful story set in a not too distant future where organized religion is outlawed, Overnight people are arrested for 'past crimes' and taken away. The injustice is well played and hard hitting.

My only complaint is the fact that this short story could have gone on to be a full novel, I would love to read more, but it was really nice to finish the story before my commute.

Good Christian Sci-Fi

I enjoyed this short story by Julie C. Gilbert. I liked that the characters relied on their Christian beliefs in order to get through their difficult hardships. I recommend this story to others who enjoy this genre. Jacqueline DeGraff's narration was fine, and she kept my attention with her performance. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

a good story but too short

I enjoyed the story but like I said a little too short could have gone into a full book. I would like to see that. It does get your mind thinking that's something that could possibly happen in the future.

Engaging short story

Futuristic sci-fi short story about a future repressive US...sort of a Gillead in reverse because now public displays of religion are forbidden. You get a hint that this is more about just religious oppression because of the histories of some other characters but the main characters are in trouble for religious expression.

I liked the backstory of the main character. You get some good inner debate about tough choices she has to make but she did seem a little too perfect. The story ended quite abruptly... and I wanted to hear more.

Narrator was fine.

This was a really good short story. It was too short to say much.It could be stretched a bit further into a book! Jaqueline DeGraff was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

just being Christian doesn't make a good writer

gilbert watched a few episodes of Westworld, figured she'd make a christian version. story doesn't work. narrator will put you to sleep with robotic intonation.
