But by the year 2150 big predators may only exist on the other side of glass barriers and chain-link fences. Their gradual disappearance is changing the very nature of our existence. Some people insist that culture is strictly a human feat. What are they afraid of? This book looks into three cultures of other-than-human beings in some of Earth's remaining wild places. It shows how if you're a sperm whale, a scarlet macaw, or a chimpanzee, you too experience your life with the understanding that you are an individual in a particular community. You too are who you are not by genes alone; your culture is a second form of inheritance. And your culture, too, changes and evolves.

Story
It may be a wonderful world, but as Dan Riskin explains, it's also a dangerous, disturbing, and disgusting one. At every turn, it seems, living things are trying to eat us, poison us, use our bodies as their homes, or have us spread their eggs. In Mother Nature Is Trying to Kill You, Riskin is our guide through the natural world at its most gloriously ruthless. Using the seven deadly sins as a road map, Riskin offers dozens of jaw-dropping examples that illuminate how brutal nature can truly be.

Story
Birds, Jim Robbins posits, are our most vital connection to nature. They compel us to look to the skies, both literally and metaphorically, draw us out into nature to seek their beauty, and let us experience vicariously what it is like to be weightless. Birds have helped us in so many of our human endeavors: learning to fly, providing clothing and food, and helping us better understand the human brain and body.

Story
Feathers are an evolutionary marvel: Aerodynamic, insulating, beguiling. They date back more than 100 million years. Yet their story has never been fully told. In Feathers, biologist Thor Hanson details a sweeping natural history, as feathers have been used to fly, protect, attract, and adorn through time and place. Applying the research of paleontologists, ornithologists, biologists, engineers, and even art historians, Hanson asks: What are feathers? How did they evolve? What do they mean to us?

The world's largest land mammal could help us end cancer. The fastest bird is showing us how to solve a century-old engineering mystery. The oldest tree is giving us insights into climate change. The loudest whale is offering clues about the impact of solar storms. For a long time, scientists ignored superlative life forms as outliers. Increasingly, though, researchers are coming to see great value in studying plants and animals that exist on the outermost edges of the bell curve.

Great way to teach kids about animals!
This audible has been a great way for my children to learn about the different animals in the arctic and has surprised me as I did not realize at first how many animals living in the arctic or so many interesting facts about them. I enjoyed being able to challenge my children with the quiz and see how much they were paying attention to the audio (They got about 7-8 of the answers correct! :D).
Finally, my son has really liked sharing these facts with other kids his age when we go to the zoo, he enjoys knowing things others don't and then sharing that knowledge.
I have also had a friend who homeschools her kids say that this audio and others by this author have been great for teaching her kids about animals and makes teaching easier for her.

Interesting facts about animals of the Arctic!
I've listened to the other great audiobook about rainforest animals from this author. This one is another amazing one!
There is so much knowledge of these "COOL" animals. Personally love the facts of the sea otters. They look so adorable on their faces lol, and I learned so much about their habits.
I will recommend playing it during family time. It will be fun to learn together!

Fun for the whole family.
This audio was great! My kids learned a ton listening to this on our road trip to Florida. When we arrived, they were telling their grandparents all the fun facts they learned. The narrator has a great voice and I enjoyed the interactive style. This audio is a great way for you and your kids to learn without even realizing it.
