About this listen

Cody Westcott, a young archeologist, returned from a dig at Apachetarimac with more than he bargained for. Seems the Chachapoyans that he had been studying had a lot to teach us all. Soon he steps through the looking glass, but unlike Alice its no fairytale world that he finds. Instead it is our own world teeming with Interlopers: Those Who Abide. Unseen by the mass of humanity they are aware that Cody can now see them. They don't like it.

Thrust into a fight that finds him allied with highly unlikely characters he travels around the world to ancient centers of power. He calls on strength he never knew he possessed to save his wife and the future of humanity.

Thrilling-3 cheers for Alan Dean Foster

I am new to downloading audio but I've been listening to audiobooks from back when they were on tape. This book translates very well into audio. For the most part first person viewpoint. Vivid detail, nail biting adventure, romance (just enough to make it believable that the protagonist would go to the ends of the Earth to accomplish his goal), a bit of humor and room for many, many sequels. Did I mention how much I enjoyed the narration? Ben Browder does a wide range of voices but even better he creates that special character to listener bond. Hope he continues to do audio work

Interesting premise, good presentation

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

more background on some of the characters and groups.

Have you listened to any of Ben Browder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to him before, but have seen him on several tv shows. he does a good job presenting but starts off a little slow paced.

Did Interlopers inspire you to do anything?

move my houseplants outside.

Nice lite listen

Starts off strong but then limps along
Narrator was not my cup of tea but does a decent job
All in all the story is like a Lifetime TV movie, nice but not Hollywood

fantastic work great narrations

easy to finish reading, Ben browder did a fantastic job narrating the story and building tension, the accents keep it clear to who is speaking. if you enjoy Ben browders work on farscape/ Stargate I highly recommend you check it out.

Great build up

I'd read the book and was initially disappointed with the narrator. He seemed to be too understated, but as time went on, the pace of the story increased and the intensity of the narration kept pace with this. He also dealt well with non-American accents - notoriously difficult.

question answered

I am a huge fan of Alan Dean Foster's books. Of course there are some I like more than others, but my only hesitation here was whether I would like Ben Browder as a narrator. I do. I was worried that I would be distracted from the story by his familiar voice. I wasn't. Browder's performance enhanced Dean's story.

Interlopers Ordained

Very orginal story... but I kept having the feeling that I'd heard it before. Then I ralized...I hadn't heard it before, we live it everyday. I think I know who the Interlopers are.
Interlopers appears to be a metaphor for a real world entity.

VERBOSE

The story has a good premis and the reader does a fair job. But it is extreemly obvious that the author was paid by the word for this story. He repeats the same things over and over and over and over again. I fast forwarded for several minutes, multiple times, and did not miss the story line. This is one story where the abridged version would have been better.

Fast-paced Sci-Fi Entertainment

I am an Alan Dean Foster fan, and now a Ben Browder fan. I've enjoyed Browder on Farscape and Stargage SG-1, but his reading of this very entertaining novel made me appreciate how vast his acting talents are.

A decent B-Movie style story and not much else.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was never boring, despite the author using a lot of over-explaining and repetitions in the text, probably due to quick pacing and general narration where needed.

Would you be willing to try another one of Ben Browder’s performances?

I'm not sure. I like Ben Browder as an actor a lot, from his work on Farscape and Stargate SG-1, but here I felt he was cashing a paycheck. His narration was too rushed and forced. I had to slow down the reading speed in the app, and still it felt too quick with complete disregard for punctuation. He did great on the accents though. I think...

Was Interlopers worth the listening time?

It was ok, but I kept feeling that it would be much more successful if it was shorter. The ideas were interesting, though the main concept is ridiculous and the characters were quite stereotypic. As a much shorter story it would be much more entertaining.
