About this listen

In New York Times best-selling science fiction epic Out of the Dark, Earth beat back an alien invasion. Now we've got to make sure they don't come back, in Into the Light.

The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins.

But the Shongairi didn't expect the survivors' tenacity. And, crucially, they didn't know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them was us. The other, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of Eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn't stand a chance.

Now Earth is once again ours. Aided by the advanced tech the aliens left behind, we're rebuilding as fast as we can.

Meanwhile, a select few of our blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi home world, having commandeered one of the alien starships...the planet-busting kind.

I read “Out of the Darkness” many years ago, enjoyed it, and it stuck with me. I always wanted a sequel, and was thrilled when I saw this coming out. I loved it. Good mixture of tension and humor. Interesting evolutions of technology and exploration of biases and their effects on society. I can’t wait for the next one.

A great sequel - long overdue

I really like the story. I had a hard time with the narrator. He inflected the same accent on every character, and being southern I’m not sure what accent that was. He also cannot pronounce “schedule”, and for some reason that bothered me greatly. Would have been a much easier listen if they used the previous books narrator.

Good book, would have been better with the original narrator.

As most fans of the first book, I was disappointed with the ending. However, the author did his best to pull this book back into the realm of science fiction v. fantasy.
The first two parts of the book were a tad slow. I felt this book was just setting up the next big book.
The third part of the book was good. This was the stuff we all liked from the first book.
Overall, I was frustrated with the first two parts, the third part made it worth it and was just a set up for the big and final book which will be release in the next ___ years.

An interesting ride

I enjoyed part two of the series. I just hope it is not as long as the Honor Harrington series.

Great space western

Story was good if a little long winded. Narrator would have been better off to just read the book rather than trying out his nonexistent voice acting skills.

Good story bad narrator

Just finished this #2 in the series. Great book about contacting aliens from a position of strength. Can’t wait for the next one.

Great book.

I love the integration of vampires into an Earth coming-of-age series. A delightful win for Weber.

Vampires in space

Loved this second book just as much as the first. I was engaged all the way through. The narrator really needs some work though. Everything was emphasized and not every character talks with such force or emphasis. It was also hard to differentiate the characters within the conversations. Its almost as though he lost track of who he was performing. The story totally saved him.....but it would have been a dynamic audible book with a more seasoned narrator. I ended up reading my Kindle so I could get my characters down in my mind. That helped immensely.

Refreshing Twist
