Publisher's summary

The fate of Russia hangs in the balance as up-timers and down-timers battle for freedom!

The United Sovereign States of Russia struggles to set in place the traditions and legal precedents that will let it turn into a constitutional monarchy with freedom and opportunity for all its citizens.

At the same time, they’re trying to balance the power of the states and the federal government. And the USSR is fighting a civil war with Muscovite Russia, defending the new state of Kazakh from invasion by the Zunghars, building a tech base and an economy that will allow its money to be accepted in western Europe, establishing a more solid claim to Siberia, and, in general, keeping the wheels of civilization from coming off and dumping Russia back into the Time of Troubles.

Or, possibly even worse, reinstalling the sort of repressive oligarchy that they just got rid of.

Tying ALL the USSR and Holmes stories together

This book did a good, not great but good job of tying all the current stories into a timeline. Explains how events unfolded that were mentioned in other stories and expanded on others. It was a bit long but the payoff was worth it. Can’t wait for the next chapter in this story.

What's Going on and Why

Really great details in the story and read fabulously by George Guidell... but... I could not discern a plot or purpose. Very entertaining but seemed to wander aimlessly

Giving a better vision of what Russia could have become!!

Tzar Michael becomes an enlightened monarch finding
his visionary dream team to support and sustain him.
He uses charm, horse trading, and military power to
weaken and to defeat the Russian church and the Russian nobility with the social traditions, and serfdom that all handcuff Russia. He has hostile bordering
tribes and nations He faces lack of education, health care and a frightful climate and shortge of natural trade routes. He meets all with a soft and disarming
personality on His way to modernity.

An Immersive Story

This Story is the 3rd book in the Russian saga where you get to experience how the political and technological influences of the uptimers effects the Russian Civil War. Overrall it protrays a very optimistic scenario for Russia, while keeping the harsh realities of the period front and center.

Horrible narration

Nearly unintelligible. Monotone with slurred pronunciation. This made whatever story there was impossible to follow or enjoy. Of a couple thousand audible books I’ve heard, this was the worst.
