Better

This series had gotten a little stale, but Intrepid did a nice job of bringing surprises and some unexpected twists to make it a better read.

Back to the Rim

This is book 6 in the Longknife series. It is advisable to read this series in order or else it is easy to be lost. At the end of the last book Kris was being returned to the Rim of Homan Space to her former command; to the ship she had acquired as a prize by capturing the pirates that had her. Kris re-equipped the ship and re-named it the Wasp. Kris is back to hunting for pirates and exploring space as a science ship. In this story Kris comes across a plan to assassinate a member of the Peterwald family and blame Kris. Shepherd has the relationship between Victoria Peterwald and Kris changing.

In this episode Shepherd has Kris fail. That is a nice touch and makes her human, it is very well done. The book has lots of action both space and ground pounding action with the marines to save a world of independent farmers. I note that the enemies are becoming more nebulous and changeable. It is obvious this book is setting up some important relationships for the future episodes. I am fascinated with Kris’s computer “Nellie.” The book is well written and keeps the banter going between characters along with the humor. I cannot wait to start the next book. Dina Pearlman narrates the series.

Good but...

My may problem with this Book is the internal whining about problems the main character is responsible for. There are also a few minor plot wholes that pulled me from the story.

Great Series "I Want More"!!

Kris Longknife is another great female character around which a whole universe of action can be created, much like Elizabeth Moon's Kylara Vatta or David Weber's Honor Harrington. All the Kris Longknife stories all have a similar structure but it works from beginning to end, leaving you wanting more. Can't wait for "Undaunted" to arrive on audio.

Awesome Sci-fi series

I am writing this because i think it is one of the best series books out there. Mike Shepherd always tells a good action packed story. This one has a female lead and she has some great friends that are willing to die for her and what she stands for. The narrator Dina Pearlman is also one of the best !!
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO READ THE BOOKS IN ORDER.

As Good as You Might Expect ... Maybe Better

I'm six and a half books into the series so there is clearly something about it that appeals to me. The narration continues to have little moments of irritation (some of the bad guys practically cackle) and some of the dialogue only makes it worse, but I mostly enjoy this universe and the time spent within it. This may be one of the stronger entries so far. I particularly enjoy the minor redemptions of a couple of characters from the opposing sides. Sure, this is all Honor Harrington lite, but it still goes down smooth with only a slight aftertaste.

Enjoyable and fun

Fun story, the low rating is due to the fact that I got a bit annoyed with the unending hero worshipping. I do like Kris Longknife, but it would be more enjoyable if I was allowed to make up my own mind about that... why do I constantly need to be told how singularly fantastic she is? Still, I did enjoy the story.
