About this listen

One woman's quest to discover the truth behind her husband's death will pit her against a new generation of cutting-edge surveillance technology and the most dangerous conspiracy in America - Invasion of Privacy is the riveting, new standalone suspense novel from New York Times best-selling author Christopher Reich.

On a remote, dusty road 40 miles outside of Austin, Texas, FBI agent Joe Grant and a confidential informant are killed in a deadly shootout. Left to pick up the pieces is Mary Grant, Joe's young wife and mother of their two daughters. The official report places blame for the deaths on Joe's shoulders...but the story just doesn't add up and Mary has too many troubling questions that need answers. How did Joe's final voice mail - containing a cryptic warning for Mary, recorded moments before the fatal shooting - disappear without a trace from her phone?

Stonewalled by the FBI, Mary will be drawn into a deadly conspiracy that puts her in the crosshairs of the richest and most powerful men in America...and the newest and most terrifying surveillance system known to man.

Good story about up-to-date topics but a little rough around the edges.

I've always loved Christopher Reich books. He's a great author. However, I noticed a couple of rough spots in this book. The two young sisters were written rather poorly in my opinion. They would use words that no teenager in the world would use no matter how mature they were. Not if they went to public school anyways. "Don't be a pest" was one. No kid would use that word. There were a couple of other times were it was really bad. Also, some of the tech wasn't researched well. One of the hackers records a Vine video for himself? A reoccurring video that has to be posted online of him doing something illegal? Doesn't make sense. The south just wanted to use the word Vine.
Anyways, mostly good. Those were the few reservations I had.

A good thriller

This was a fun book. Good story and characters you could root for. Read it before it becomes a movie!

This could happen.

Great plot, fast paced and exciting until the finish. The narrator did an excellent job

Whew! Exhaustingly Trenchant Details.

Riech appears to know of which he writes. I mean reeeeeeeeeely! Here he mines a vein that others have hacked at, some well, some terribly. In fact, when it comes to digital privacy, well what's left to extract that still glimmers? Well Reich answers the question. The author's a story teller, and the story - while formulaic - kept me interested through the entire 13 plus hours. It's one of those you sit in your driveway to grab a few extra minutes before walking into the house.

Paul Michael never intrudes... Yet he creates a differentiated ensemble that keeps everyone in the cast in their place. I liked this thing enough to give it 15 stars even though the lead characters were stereotypically developed. Why get Patterson/Clinton's The President Is Missing when you can listen to essentially the same story engine here, painstakingly laid out accessible.

And it doesn't hurt that Paul Michael is a talented actor with a gaggle of voices at his command.

With a little editing and a few revisions———-

I found the basic premise entertaining and, in this era, plausible (everything is on someone’s server and subject to monitoring or hacking).

However, the reaction of the family to their loss was hard to ignore/reconcile. At a time when one would anticipate the family to be bereft and the children inconsolable, they seemed oddly detached from emotion —- being “purpose/mission driven” is supposed to be the reason.

In the age of global corporations and unchecked egos, this book could have been better.

As it is, it is fine for mental diversion while on the treadmill or the elliptical - the old equivalent of the airplane read.

Compelling an Riveting with a dash of suspense

This story had a slow an weird start but once it began there was not a second wasted. I’m glad I listened to the end it shows that one’s beliefs in people can be missed placed an used against in the worst ways possible with technology as a real weapon.

A truly awesome read...

This is only the third book out of 50, to which I have given 5 stars.. It actually deserves more!

Gripping plot; wonderful characters and nail-biting moments aplenty.

I strongly recommend this book.

Excellent adventure and a great story!

Burned through it so quickly that I wanted it to actually be a series. I'll definitely check into more Chris Reich books!

A bit far-fetched

The storytelling, and the narrator were very good, but the story is somewhat far-fetched

Marginally good at best

Plot was very predictable. I felt as if the author was intentionally inserting overused "twists" to try to push the story. The characters behaved completely unlike any sane people would in life-threatening situations, & were then saved by too many coincidences.
