About this listen
Have you ever wondered whether the strange and ancient law just quoted to you by someone is correct? Does it exist, did it exist, and even more interesting, is it still in statute? Surprisingly, there are quite a few ancient laws still in use and also some which are known but no longer law. In the same light, do you know which modern laws you could be inadvertently breaking? This fun and lighthearted book is a nod to the laws of the past, both obscure and sometimes daft, and those which have a greater standing in our lives today which may not be so obscure but are nonetheless relevant.

On the 50th anniversary of her murder, Kevin Cook presents the real Kitty Genovese. She was a vibrant young woman - unbeknownst to most, a lesbian - a bartender working (and dancing) her way through the colorful, fast-changing New York of the ’60s, a cultural kaleidoscope marred by the Kennedy assassination, the Cold War, and race riots. Downtown, Greenwich Village teemed with beatniks, folkies, and so-called misfits like Kitty and her lover. Kitty Genovese evokes the Village’s gay and lesbian underground with deep feeling and colorful detail.

Interesting book!
I thought we had some of the craziest laws in the US, but the UK was, and still is on another level. The fact that some of these laws existed is hilarious, but back then I can imagine why they were in place. I also laughed out loud on the chapter covering people who did stupid things that broke the law. The narration was perfect and every chapter was explained clearly as well. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in history or planning to make a visit to the UK.
