About this listen

In Xanth, everyone has a talent. But that doesn't mean everyone loves his talent, and no one understands that better than Hapless. Endowed with the ability to conjure any instrument he wants, Hapless could be an extraordinary musician if only he could play a tune that didn't fall ear-piercingly flat. His one desire is to find an instrument he can play. When the Good Magician hears about Hapless's desperate desire, he sends the young man on a quest to find the elusive Isis Orb, a magical talisman that could fulfill his wish. Setting out to achieve the impossible, Hapless meets an eclectic mix of creatures that join him on his journey, all with wishes they hope the Isis Orb will grant.

Xanth is a wonderful series of books! I have loved them since I discovered them in my uncles bookcase at 13 years old. Ever since I have made sure to read each novel when it comes out.

Piers Anthony is a wonderful author who, I believe, is underrated. If you haven't started reading or listening to his novels I strongly recommend them. My first was "Man from Mundania".

Brett Barry was a wonderful choice of readers. his voice is easy to listen to. I wish he would read the entire Xanth series, including the ones that were recorded in the 80's.

Give this book a shot! You will love it!

The book was great but the Person reading needs to work on how to read a book and using voice for other characters I wish they had more of the Xanth Serses available

The book was great

The story is Xanth. It's great. The voices of the person performing it, not great.

Another great Xanth book and the narrator is great too. He really brings the characters and story to life.

If you are offended by anything in a Xanth novel, this is clearly your 1st time reading any of the books. If you really wanna be offended in today's modern times, by a fantasy novel, read any of the books in the Gor series. By John Norman.

This is a beautifully-couched allegory in the form of a fantasy quest. I've been a fan of Xanth for years, but I truly appreciated this volume as a man who struggles with self-confidence. I did think some of Isis' statements re Christianity are a bit overblown (that's quite a lot to conclude from similarity of artistic composition) but not out of line with what one might expect such a being to say. The storytelling is fairly standard Xanth while at the same time challenging Xanth's own conventions. Indeed, some direct comparisons could be made with how "A Spell For Chameleon" upended some common Fantasy tropes. Highly recommended for fans of the series... who of course do not need my opinion ;)

I'll be listening again!

I love this author, but the narrator was too nasally and monotone for my taste.

This author is always a hit.

really!!! so disappointed. This one is being returned. Can't believe a grown man is selling a book that seems to be based on panties, breasts and quests. I haven't gotten too far into the book. I can't get past the fact that the main character keeps going on and on about the other characters curves and about how he keeps passing out or nearly so when he sees their panties and breasts which of course the females in the story are all topless. This story is so sucky.

perfect book if you are a 12 year old BOY
