About this listen

Regret is a heavy burden to bear. And twice as hard to let go....

Aoife Brennan could blame karma for her lack of a love life. Payback for the once-in-a-lifetime love that she let slip through her fingers ten years ago. In reality, it’s The Albert, the bistro-by-day, bar-by-night success, that keeps her too busy to think about her aching, empty heart. Most of the time.

But then, the face of the woman who walks into The Albert reignites the spark that died all those years ago. Elizabeth Elliott—the woman who broke Aoife’s heart and left it in a pile of worthless pieces.

Ten years ago, Liz knew she should have dropped everything—including her husband—to follow her heart when Aoife begged her to run away together. In fact, after Liz made the choice to let Aoife go, to say her life imploded would be an understatement.

They try to pretend they can navigate this new normal—and even dance around the shimmering hope of a fresh start. But Liz has a daughter now, and an ex who figures heavily in the girl’s life. With baggage like this, recapturing what they once had could be an impossible dream…

Didn't like the fact Either could never get comfortable and trust in the relationship. And the age factor was never addressed. An the 18 year old was too nice.

It’s possible some people might find this book cheesy, but I think the people that have experienced this kind of love will absolutely adore it! I love the “babe/baby” the main characters call each other, it seems like not a lot of books use it a lot but this love (not the story, but the love they feel for each other) reminds me of my wife and I and it was great to read. K.A. Walsh did an amazing job as always.

Loved it

What an amazing story of love lost and love found again. I couldn’t put this down because the narration and story was so compelling.

Beautiful story

I really loved this story. Life is just this crazy and cruel making this a possible true story. The emotions and feelings are defined in the word and by the performance that I could feel their pain and happiness. Looking for more books by this author and performer.

Overall it was ok… I like this author and have read/heard better books from her. The story jumped from timeline to timeline without a heads up so I would be confused when the narrator would jump from current time to past time…it took a couple paragraphs to figure out the story was jumping to the past. Also, there isn’t much of a change in voice to decipher which character is talking. I would still purchase books by this author because I’ve read so many of her other books, this (although I finished it) wasn’t for me.

almost no descriptions of people or places. Just people talking and thinking and talking and thinking and talking... the writer never really paints a picture or creates a sense of place. and so much of the thought and conversation is repetitive. also, I have a feeling that the dialogue would fall pretty flat on the page, without the benefit of a skilled narrator to give it personality.

I generally enjoy this author's work, but I found this story to be quite slow and frustrating.

Very depressing story. It was the same thing over and over again. I listened to it because I paid for it. Couldn't wait for the end.
