About this listen

Orphaned into the authority of her Aunt Reed and subjected to the cruel regime at Lowood charity school, Jane Eyre still manages to hold on to her integrity. She takes up the post of governess at Thornfield and falls in love with the brooding and mysterious Mr. Rochester; but there will be quite a few complications in the way of their happiness. This is a classic and enduring masterpiece, multilayered in meaning and showing the listener many of the challenges facing women during the Victorian era.©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature Classics Drama & Plays Genre Fiction Literary Fiction

This has book has been pure joy for this reader. Written and narrated so beautifully. No words could convey the beauty of this book. Special thanks to Alice Johnson for her narrative excellence. She brought the story alive for me.

Classic English literature. Describes the culture of the time and tells a story of angst, struggle, losses and gains. I found little if anything predictable the first time through. Subsequent reads/listenings of the story are, if not surprising in the storyline, still entertaining enough to hold my interest. Charlotte is the Bronte sister who gave us characters we came to know and love and care about.

There's a reason it's a Classic

Charlotte Bronte's novel is always a pleasure to revisit; however, it was only when I listened to the masterful recording by Alice Johnson that the beauty and poetry of Bronte's writing was truly apparent. So enjoyable to listen to!

excellent recording

The narration was acceptable but her affected British accent was uneven, at times sounding forced. The narrator's announcing the title of the book before each chapter was annoying and unnecessary. The real problem here is that this reeks of being a free Librivox recording being sold on Audible and it STINKS !!!

Sounds like a ripped off Librivox recording
