Publisher's summary

The only female student in Cambridge University’s medical program, Jane Porter is far more comfortable in a lab coat dissecting corpses than she is in a corset and gown sipping afternoon tea. A budding paleoanthropologist, Jane dreams of traveling the globe in search of fossils that will prove the evolutionary theories of her scientific hero, Charles Darwin.

When dashing American explorer Ral Conrath invites Jane and her father to join an expedition deep into West Africa, she can hardly believe her luck. Africa is every bit as exotic and fascinating as she has always imagined, but Jane quickly learns that the lush jungle is full of secrets - and so is Ral Conrath. When danger strikes, Jane finds her hero, the key to humanity’s past, and an all-consuming love in one extraordinary man: Tarzan of the Apes.

Jane is the first version of the Tarzan story written by a woman and authorized by the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate. Its publication marks the centennial of the original Tarzan of the Apes.

Tarzan

Jane was the highlight of the book and the narrator of this story. This book is hands-down the best Tarzan story I have ever read !

Love this Tarzan Retelling from Janes POV

I found this retelling of Tarzan from Jane’s POV to he really interesting and engaging. I wasn’t bored for a single minute and just when you think you know the story and what will happen the author throws in a detail or twist to keep you on your toes. Jane is a very independent and precocious 20 year old young lady, who attends her father’s anatomy lessons and other college courses. Encouraged by her doting father, both are taken in and deceived by a cruel man who nevertheless gets them to Africa and of course that is where all hell breaks loose and the romance begins. Lovers of romance novels may be disappointed in the lack of details of the intimate scenes but will surely enjoy the heat, love, and affinity that grows between Tarzan and Jane as they become each other’s teacher and protector in a very equal and egalitarian way. They will also not be disappointed by the HEA at the end though perhaps be as eager for more details as Edgar was at the end. Enjoy this fast paced and fun retelling, I sure did!

Wonderful story!

Told from Jane’s perspective with details only she could share. It took me to a different world with a real alpha male.

Narrator Brings Book to life!

If you could sum up Jane: The Woman Who Loved Tarzan in three words, what would they be?

Exciting,Adventure,Love

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, that would be Jane.Quite the character she is.How could any man resist her? Strong willed, smart, sexy, and full of life.

Which character – as performed by Suzan Crowley – was your favorite?

Again Jane. But surprisingly ,Ms.Crowley was quite adept at doing a variety of voices, male and female. When she voices Ral,you can feel the evil in him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not want to put it down!

Any additional comments?

Having already read the book,I was hesitant to purchase the audio.I'm certainly glad I did.Susan Crowley absolutely brought this book to life! Such emotions in Jane.I actually got goosebumps.Loved It.

I’m not sure what other reviewers heard?

I greatly enjoyed this presentation, it is not a reboot of ERB creation. It’s something different. Something good and worth your time. In many ways it is a more real presentation of the characters. Still fantasy but more believable in many ways. It was a complete story line performed excellently. Yes it is more real to the point of a PG13 rating but only in a few places and for continuity of story and character development.
I feel many of the criticisms read in reviews reflect a less attentive and incomplete hearing of the story. Great job!

Why change the story so much?

Clearly the author is a talented writer but seriously, why make so many changes to the story and WHY put sex in it as well?

The performance/reading of this was fantastic but if you are a Tarzan fan, you may just end up pissed off after listening to this crap.

This Really Works...Great Story!

I was hesitant to give up a credit for this. I mean it IS a Tarzan story. But I am so glad I did. This story goes much further than the old one dimensional Tarzan movies: “Me Tarzan, You Jane” with the cannibal natives and some guy in a loin cloth wrestling tigers and alligators. The story is clever, thoughtful, entertaining and suspenseful without being over the top. I am sure that fans of the Outlander series and Davina Porter will especially enjoy the story and Susan Crowley’s excellent, though at times, emotional narration. Two thumbs up for this great adventure.

Great for mature readers that enjoy adventure and science in a British accent!

Great book to read if you want a story about an adventurous and brave woman that is full of rich information of 19th century history, biology, anatomy, anthropology, paleontology, linguistics, and archeology mixed in with romance and battle with two antagonists. It gets 5 stars for performance because her British voice was melodic and soothing and this was my first audiobook where the narrator actually screamed and cried! The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 in story is because it got just a little too unrealistic in a couple parts and I thought it could have been portrayed a bit better. But overall a great story recommended for women in 20s-30s who enjoys science, romance, and adventure! Warning: sex, violence, and nothing like the Disney cartoon!

21st century woman in the 19th

I read Tarzan as a kid and loved it and was prepared to love this story. While the story was good over all, I was turned off by the radical feminism of the title character. I honestly disliked Jane for most of the book. I also disliked how long it took for the story to get to the Tarzan-Jane relationship. The Jane I remembered from the original stories never made an appearance in this book. On the positive side, the story is well written, very descriptive, and the narrator was excellent.
