About this listen

"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn't content to go elsewhere for a need she can't fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

What made the experience of listening to Jason the most enjoyable?

The is book 28 or 29 in the Blake series and by now she is getting a little stale. This book just talks about Anite's love life and lets her work out her issue with woman in her bed. I don't why we needed a whole book for her to work out this issue Maybe Hamilton needed to work it out I am not sure why she needed a whole book to write out a charater that was clearly hard for to write about and just got mentioned in small little paragraphs in the last few books as almost an after thought. So Anita will never shop with her bed buddies that is what she has Nathaniel for. I need a Blake with a plot.

What other book might you compare Jason to and why?

The playboy form.

What does Kimberly Alexis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can believe she can read this with a straight face with out laughing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, Some of it has to sink in just to get it straight in your head.

Any additional comments?

Hamilton can do better.

Hamilton writes sex.

This is basically just 4hrs of sex and Anita questioning herself and her motives and being a stubborn bitch as usual

not really any type of plot

This was too short. I want to say well does it work out with Anita? Does Jason get the girl? Does the girl make the changes? I feel like the author dropped a to be continued but never will.

Wonderful story but......

Sexy fun times with a side of clear communication goals and examples. When fantasy allows you to explore your own inner preferences and perceptions. Grab your tea and settle in for a fun ride.

A glimpse into a favorite character

There were a lot of things I really did like about this book. But compared to the rest of the series, this doesn't even come close! I loved learning more about Jade and JJ. It's so weird how much alike she and Jason are. I know the whole backstory and the reason why they are very similar. But actually seeing/hearing it for myself was definitely pretty cool. I love JJ. Girls like her make me wish I was a lesbian, or at least Bi or something. Maybe a few years ago when it was less the IN THING to do. Now that it's become so popular, eh, 'm not interested anymore. Although the Poly Lifestyle definitely sounds interesting. But I digress.
I listened to this on the audio version. And the audiobooks for this series are FABULOUS! Kimberly Alexis is a genius. She is not just a narrator. She is a true performer. She gave my favorite series (my 1st favorite since I started reading these on 11/12, I'm 36 now. Anita has been in my life FOREVER, prob why I'm a little on the Dark & Twisty side), voices. The first book I listened to on audio (I started over so my husband could listen to the audiobooks), I really didn't think I liked her. But I was so used to Anita and Jean Claude being in my head and my voice that I wasn't thrilled about the audio. After book 1, I was used to it. And by book 2, I was AMAZED by her.
Now the bad part, and it's not like it's terrible. My husband thinks this is the worst one in the series so far, but I highly doubt he can remember what his favorite book was in the series so he's not a great judge. He's more into these books because of the story, the action, and the world-building. You know, blood, guts, and gore, the guy stuff lol. But as a sick and twisty kinda person, I appreciate that stuff too. In this book, I'm pretty sure they never left the bedroom. I like the talking and the learning about the different characters. Going deeper into the story. But I need more. This lil four-hour book felt kind of unnecessary. Like the important parts of this book could have been put in the next book. Although, I've never been a fan of novellas. Doesn't give me enough. I always need more. (Like an addict lol). So I might have to agree with the husband on this one. It may be the worse one in the series. But it's not a bad book. It just had a lot to live up to. If I didn't have the credit, I might have skipped this one. And I hate spending credits on novellas. But I'm so afraid of missing something important.
Sorry for the really long review guys. I usually don't write anywhere near this much. Guess I was feeling chatty today. If you took the time to read this, sorry lol. But hit the like or helpful button they have so I can see if anyone actually did read this. THANKS!!

Cute for a Novella, But I need more!

If you don't like a lot of sexual stuff a lot of talking then don't listen to this. I absolutely loved it. It was so Anita. People who say they're sick of these books because her character isn't changing or growing up. That kind of irritates the heck out of me. If you have been reading from book 1 all through til this book I am confounded how she hasn't changed. She's dealt with a lot of issues and yes her core beliefs of things are still kind of a road block. But isn't that just a, for a lack of a better term at the moment, realness type of quality to make you love her? What have you been through that you just can't seem to get passed. Something that just stays on your mind constantly....Well for me I love her. Her character is real and stays true to herself, flaws and all.
