Publisher's summary
If you want to explore Jewish mysticism, then pay attention....
Jewish mysticism is a powerful study within the Jewish tradition. Rooted in antiquity and veiled in mystery until quite recently, Jewish mysticism has burst into the modern world in guises both illuminating and bewildering.
Throughout Jewish history, flashes of the light held within sacred texts have sparked the sages' inquisitive minds throughout the diaspora. Rising out of the ashes of the temples once standing in Jerusalem, the texts and theologies associated with Jewish mysticism have comforted and ecstatically raise those who have used their knowledge.
In this audiobook, we'll review key texts, including:
- Sefir ha Behir
- Sefir Yetzirah
- Ma'aseh Merkavah and the accompanying Heikhalot literature
But in examining these texts, we'll also delve into the historical contexts in which they were written and how they served as spiritual responses to the tribulations of the Jewish people, interpreted by those who wrote and disseminated them.
You’ll discover fascinating things along way:
- You'll meet some great sages, chief among them the father of Lurianic Kabbalah, Isaac Luria, his disciple Moses de Leon, and the great Moses Cordovero.
- You'll meet the sefirot and be introduced to their mysteries as the emanations of the divine.
- You'll see how spiritually powerful texts can be abused through popularization. This always concerned the Kabbalistic sages and is the reason for the traditionally limited transmission of Kabbalah.
This audiobook provides a detailed introduction to the fascinating world of Jewish mysticism and the community most closely associated with it.
Bring your curiosity and questions and open the door to the mysteries of this vibrant corner of the Jewish world.
Buy now, and step into the fascinating world of Jewish Mysticism.

Story
The familiar reality is the physical one-percent material realm in which we live, yet there is another dimension the world beyond our five senses. According to Kabbalah, this is called the 99-percent realm. Everything we truly desire: love, joy, peace of mind, freedom, inspiration, and answers are available when we connect to the 99-percent reality. The problem is that most of us have inadvertently disconnected ourselves from this dimension. Imagine if we could access this source at will, and on a continuing basis. This is the power of Kabbalah.

He expounds on the dynamics of the spiritual domain, the worlds of the Sefirot, souls, and angels. When properly understood, Sefer Yetzirah becomes the instruction manual for a very special type of meditation meant to strengthen concentration and to aid the development of telekinetic and telepathic powers.

Written for those who were bewildered by the conflict between religion and scientific and philosophic ideas, The Guide for the Perplexed is concerned with finding a concord between the text of the Old Testament and its commentaries, and Aristotelian philosophy. After analyzing the ideas of the Old Testament, Maimonides examines other reconciliations of religion and philosophy like the Moslem rationalists and then offers his own resolution with Aristotelianism.

The success of books such as Elaine Pagels's Gnostic Gospels and Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code proves beyond a doubt that there is a tremendous thirst today for finding the hidden truths of Christianity - truths that may have been lost or buried by institutional religion over the last two millennia. In Forbidden Faith, Richard Smoley narrates a popular history of one such truth, the ancient esoteric religion of gnosticism, which flourished between the first and fourth centuries AD, but whose legacy remains even today, having survived secretly throughout the ages.

World-renowned Jesus scholar Marcus J. Borg shows how we can live passionately as Christians in today's world by practicing the vital elements of Christian faith. For the millions of people who have turned away from many traditional beliefs about God, Jesus, and the Bible, but still long for a relevant, nourishing faith, Borg shows why the Christian life can remain a transforming relationship with God. Emphasizing the critical role of daily practice in living the Christian life, he explores how prayer, worship, Sabbath, pilgrimage, and more can be experienced as authentically life-giving practices.

Story
John Shelby Spong, best-selling author and popular proponent of a modern, scholarly, and authentic Christianity, argues that this last gospel to be written was misinterpreted by the framers of the fourth-century creeds to be a literal account of the life of Jesus when in fact it is a literary, interpretive retelling of the events in Jesus' life through the medium of fictional characters, from Nicodemus and Lazarus to the "Beloved Disciple."

Story
The human body is an amazing gift, yet today, many people downplay its importance and fail to understand what Christianity teaches about our bodies and their God-given purposes. Many people misunderstand how the body was designed, its role in relating to others; and we lack awareness of the dangers of objectifying the body, divorcing it from its intended purpose.

Story
Many Christians today tend to view the story of medieval faith as a cautionary tale. Too often, they dismiss the Middle Ages as a period of corruption and decay in the church. They seem to assume that the church apostatized from true Christianity after it gained cultural influence in the time of Constantine, and that the faith was only later recovered by the 16th-century Reformers or even the 18th-century revivalists. As a result, the riches and wisdom of the medieval period have remained largely inaccessible to modern Protestants.

Solid, honest, and approachable
It is tough for me to rate this book because I have been thinking of Jewish Mysticism for a while; therefore, I do not understand how plain it would be for a novice. Mari appears to be very conscious and enlightened on the topic and as a result, I would suggest it.

strangeness of Jewish mystical spirituality.
This helps to explain the diversity including near-surrealist strangeness of Jewish mystical spirituality. mystics visualized the Physical body of God: His sidearms so many billion miles long, and so on. Health visionaries ascended to graduated Heavenly Palaces a practice St. Paul must have been familiar with.

THE Modern Classic of Kabbalah
Gershom Scholem transformed Kabbalah into an acceptable academic discipline. Today many authors/scholars/professors follow in his footsteps. It should be noted, however, that he was a cassette professional nor Kabbalist. He appears to have faithfully presented Kabbalistic doctrines, teachings, etc.

Very good academic history,
This was a very interesting audible, although its stature as a classic led me to believe that it would be a bit closer to a “Jewish Mysticism for Dummies” than it ended up being. The work was composed in Hebrew, presumably for audiences who have a familiarity with the Torah
