About this listen

She left him at the altar, but the devil is making him keep his promise.

Destiny is calling Chris, yet someone forgot to give him an instruction manual on conquering the world. Being the Antichrist is all well and good, but how is he supposed to know how to bring about Armageddon? He's still waiting for his army of minions, the glory, the riches. And where is the respect?

You'd think any woman would be ecstatic at the thought of marrying the future ruler of the world.

Not Isobel.

She keeps spouting things like "forced to get married", "love me for myself, not because Daddy made you".

It doesn't help that his psychotic mother with a penchant for playing with dead things has taken an interest. However, having her henchman of the apocalypse attempt to kidnap him isn't the way to get in his good graces.

Things are starting to get complicated on Earth. Dark forces are rising, Chris's powers are still developing - and he's pretty sure his dad, Lucifer, wants him dead. What's the destroyer of the world to do?

Point him to the nearest bar. This calls for more beer.

Will the Prince of Hell get married?

Jilted Prince is book 2 in the Hell's Son series by Eve Langlais. Because each book cannot stand alone, I consider it a dreaded serial, and you really have to read book 1 to understand what is going on (and what just happened). I'm going to say it again - I really hate serials!

As I mentioned for the previous book, this is a prequel to the Princess of Hell series and the Wickedest Witch and Last Minion Standing books. It mentions characters and events from them as well as the Welcome to Hell series, so if you've read them, it is fun to recognize those references. I'm going to start re-reading all of those books again.

Christopher and Isobel were finally getting married, only they didn't realize it was to each other. When Isobel figured it out, she slapped him and ran down the isle, confusing the heck out of Chris. This story is about Chris trying to earn Isobel's forgiveness so they can get married the way they want, not the way everyone else wants them to, or even if everyone else wants them to. This journey leads to excitement, mysteries, learning about each other, and a new pet.

The story: I liked Christopher more in this story than in the first. He is still lazy and arrogant, but he also loves Isobel and is learning to access his emotions and empathy. I enjoyed the story, really liked Gooshie, and am still in the dark about who his mother is. The ending is another cliff-hanger, but at least we know we'll finally know who birthed him. I also liked how touching each other affected the magic, and look forward to seeing just how powerful Chris really is.

The audible: The narrator did a really good job, and he is the best male narrator I've heard. He really brought the characters to life and I look forward to hearing more from him. I especially liked his Gooshie rendition.

I really love all the Lucifer books from Eve

So this is the second book in Eve Langlais’ Hell’s Son series. It picks up at the end of the first book, Lazy Son. If you aren’t familiar with this series, it is set in the same hilarious world as Princess of Hell and Welcome to Hell series. You don’t have to have read either of those series to read this one, but you will get some cameos and easter eggs if you’ve read them.

So this series is told from the POV of Christopher, the Antichrist, son of Lucifer. He wasn’t raised by his biological mother, because she was hiding him from Lucifer. He was given to a woman and he was worshiped as the Prince of Hell. The “mother” who raised him is in prison now for murdering her boyfriend (in her defense, the boyfriend tried to poison Chris when he was only 10).

Isobel is granddaughter of the infamous wizard, Rasputin. She is a witch and has been wearing a magical chastity belt. Her grandfather had a bet with Lucifer, and Rasputin has to provide Lucifer with a virgin to wed. Lucifer decides to weasel out of it by making Chris marry her. They both know they are being coerced into a marriage, but neither knows who the other person is. That is until they meet at the end of the aisle and the veil is raised. This does not sit well with Isobel.

This is another really funny addition to this world that Eve has created. I’m a huge fan of Lucifer. He is just great, but I love all the characters around him too. There is some suspense as Chris tries to complete the impossible task which Isobel has put in front of him. His biological mother is messing with things too. Chris is pulled in different directions as people are trying to prevent or cause the apocalypse. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here for Isobel and Chris.

Narration:
This is the second book I’ve listened with Tyler Donne (the first being Lazy Son). I like his voices for the characters. I think his pacing is great. I just feel like he could bring out the humor in the book more. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there are narrators who really bring out the humor in a story (Abby Craden and Tillie Hooper have done this for other Eve series). He isn’t bad at all. I would just like to see a little more emotion and humor in his telling.

**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A Hell of a story continues

Would you listen to Jilted Prince again? Why?

Jilted Prince is the second book in the Hells Son series that started with Lazy Son. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I did the previous one. If you have already read Lazy Son then this is a must read. If you are new to this series then I recommend starting with book one and continuing on to Jilted Prince. If you find yourself loving the characters as much as I do then you may want to read the connecting series Princess of Hell (Muriel's stories) and Welcome to Hell. Incidents and storylines from both series are mentioned in the Hells Son series. Eve Langlais has the ability to create characters and environments that come to life to the reader or listener.

A hellishly fun story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Jilted Prince is a really fun story. Chris has so many good qualities despite being the son of the devil, I loved getting into his world and the chase to win Isobel over.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The wedding made me happy, I wanted it to go off without any more problems as they went through so much to get there.

Any additional comments?

Chris and Isobel are such a wonderful couple and together they make the best kind of magic.

One of the best narrators I have listened too.

I believe this narrator, Tyler Donne, is one of the best I have listened to. He made it a pleasant and enjoyable time. His tone of voice, inflections and slight accents for the various people of both sexes was entertaining and believable. I always like my reading speed increased slightly for my enjoyment and this did not detract at all. This is my honest review of this audio book that I was kindly gifted by the author. BOOK REVIEW You need to read Lazy Son before reading this for the best understanding, as this story is a continuation from that book. Much better for me than book one which I struggled a bit with due to the time overlap. I have not yet read the Princess of Hell books but will be doing so soon. Found the action better in this book and the different threads from the other series was extremely well done, all that pulling and weaving was fantastic. Liked the interaction between Isabelle and Chris, found it becoming stronger the more they did together. Loved that Chris was the one who actually ended up wanting to wait for their wedding night. What a funny turnaround. The scenes with Goshen were so good especially in the family home. Will be awaiting the next book to see what is going to happen.

A price of a great deal

Will need to get book 1 in the series . Love her story. This is the 4 one in audio. Have a lots in ebook and paperback . Hero is Chris. (Son of the underworld god ). Heroine is Isabel . Isabel got the jitters on her wedding day and she bolted Chris doesn’t know what to do to get her back. Even though he’s lucifer son he loves her.
Love how Eve takes God’s from the underworld and gives them human qualities. They are looking for love ; happiness and someone by their side .
Isabel’s mother is totally against this March and she is determined to put Chris through the wringer.
Lucifer is not to happy himself

The narrator was great. He changed his voice perfectly

Love this series

Would you listen to Jilted Prince again? Why?

I love reading and about a year ago discovered audio books. I love hearing the story as it comes to life just as easily for me as when I read the book. This is the second book in the series and I laughed so hard at points. This is a continuation of Chris and Isobel's story and the tale of being the son of Lucifer. Love the twist at the end which I sort of expected, having read other books by this author

Humor, angst and soul searching.

Can't help but cheer on the Prince of Hell. Seems like everything he tries to do goes down in smoke. Not saying that it's peaches and cream for any of the characters. A really comical series.
