Publisher's summary

If you want to discover the captivating life of John Jay, then pay attention....

John Jay was a master statesman and strategic diplomat who associated with all the great men of his day in the mid-18th century. However, his contemporaries said that he was modest and humble. They indicated that they could be at a party or gathering and guests had to coax him into discussing his role during the American Revolution or as the first Supreme Court Justice of the new nation.

When he became the first chief justice of America, he established the groundwork for fairness and neutrality in decision-making. Many of the principles he established in the 19th century are practiced today by this high court. His foresight was extremely acute, and leaders of America sought out his opinions even during his retirement. He was a role model for patience and fairness, and he manifested these qualities in his roles as a jurist, the governor of New York, and the ambassador to Spain, France, and England.

Informative Book

This book does a very good job of showing you how influential he was in so many different ways and so many different facets. I also liked listening about John Jay because he was a local guy. I recommended it for all of these reasons.

Good One

This is a needed book on one of the Founding Fathers who was an exemplary person and who has been largely forgotten. He was responsible for a lot as a Founding Father, including bringing about the Continental Congress. The book is well-written and very readable. I have not yet finished it.

Well Written

This is the Founding Father no one else seems interested in writing about, but he quietly was a major contributor to the beginnings of our country. This is a concise, well written biography.

Great Details

The author has mentioned in every Founding Father's biography; he was a President of the First Continental Congress; he helped negotiate the treaty that ended the Revolutionary War, and the treaty that finally removed the last British Troops from the United States; he contributed to the Federalist Papers, and he was the first Chief Justice of the United States.

Well Done

The author goes into a little too much detail in some of the aspects of John Jay's work, but overall the book gives a good report of how the United States of America developed its independence and then set about to form a slightly imperfect democratic government.

John Jay

The book is perfect for the time that we are now living. It tells us HOW the constitution was written and the times in society that they endured. Now, I can read, correlate it to the 'political' conversation of today. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves history, and anyone that wants to understand what our founding fathers were going through while they 'constructed' OUR constitution.

I'm Happy With It

Well written but a little less defense of John Jay at the expense of other writers would have been better. A good book that filled with insights I am happy with it.

A fair and balanced account with much detail and behind the scenes look at John Jay's life and contribution to the founding of our independent country.

Well Written

This is a well-written biography of one of the Founders who is less well known to the general public. I highly recommend this book.
