About this listen

The year is 66 A.D. Nero rules the world as Caesar. Judea is a client state of Rome. The taxes are doubled and the Judeans refuse to pay. The Romans decide to raid the Judean's holy Temple treasury. The Judeans insult and mock the Romans for their avarice; the Romans respond by murdering thousands of Judeans.

A revolt ensues. The Judeans expel or kill every Roman in Jerusalem.

Emperor Nero sends his greatest general, Vespasian to restore Roman order in the Holy Land.

A young Judean high priest & scholar, Joseph son of Matthias is sent to Galilee as governor to prepare the area for the eventual return of Roman armed forces. Joseph builds fortifications, raises city walls, trains armies, and forges weapons. After a forty-seven day siege, the Romans take the city of Jotapata and capture Joseph.

Joseph survives a death march through the desert and is put on a Roman ship from Caesarea to Rome where he is to face spectacle execution.

He nearly dies on a shipwreck on the voyage to Rome, only to survive by being washed ashore with Titus, son of Vespasian, and a family friend, Captain Frachas. The three find themselves on a Mediterranean island habituated by Greek cannibals and are nearly eaten before being being saved by a crafty Joseph.

A Roman vessel finds the three and Joseph is again put on a ship leading to his execution.

Escaping the Colosseum with his life after a daring naval maneuver, Joseph impresses even Caesar. Nero puts Joseph under the supervision of Titus to help end the ongoing Roman-Judean war.

What comes next changes the course of history: the total destruction of Jerusalem

-----

This EPIC narrative comes packed with historical accuracy, steamy sex scenes, gruesome warfare, divine prophecies, original dances, original songs, & prayers.

Josephus REVIEW:

As a history buff, I was waiting for something intriguing like this that excited my senses to actually read the novel then to finally “listen” to this historical novel of controversial historian, Josephus, was quite delightful and I am quite satisfied! Loved the storytelling for it came to life for me…in a time as these, Wowwww!

Russ Bain is an amazing & captivating Narrator and I loved all his memorable Male Cast Roles. Russ’ energetic versatility and professionalism as an Audiobook Actor and Rachel Hurd-Wood’s beautiful vocal performance in all Female Cast Roles were so moving & phenomenal! I was left emotional throughout listening to Josephus: A Novel. Wondering if this project was Russ & Rachel’s first time working together as a married couple for their ecstatic energies and natural chemistry were absolutely wonderful!

This novel has it all! The Author’s eloquent words has a lyrical writing style that is almost as poetic as a classical epic movie really sets a mood of a vivid picturesque world during the actual Destruction of the 2nd Temple time period where Romans ceased Jerusalem, The Holy Land. Honestly, I felt in my head that it seemed so real, erie, captivating, beautiful and exciting, and even horrifying! It impacted me as if I were there like déjà vu. Leading me to ask questions and want to research more of the Antiquities & Jewish War of this time period, for are we in an age doomed to repeat ourselves…capturing and observing the honest words of the past may tell or at least warn us all. Very intriguing!!!

Well done B. Michael Antler and all involved! L’Chaim! B”H!
