Publisher's summary

New Year’s Resolution: Have a baby. Preferably with Josh Lewenthal.

Meet Gemma Jacobs. She’s driven, energetic, and a positive thinker. She has a great career working for famed self-help guru Ian Fortune, she lives in a cute studio apartment in Manhattan, and her family is supportive and loving (albeit a little kooky). Her life is perfect. Absolutely wonderful.

Except for one tiny little thing.

After a decade of disastrous relationships and an infertility diagnosis, Gemma doesn’t want a Mr. Right (or even a Mr. Right Now); she just wants a baby.

And all she needs is an egg, some sperm, and IVF.

So Gemma makes a New Year’s resolution: Have a baby.

Josh Lewenthal is a laid-back, relaxed, find-the-humor-in-life kind of guy. The polar opposite of Gemma. He’s also her brother’s best friend. For the past 20 years, Josh has attended every Jacobs’ family birthday, holiday, and event - he’s always around.

Gemma knows him. He’s nice (enough), he’s funny (ish), he’s healthy (she thinks), and he didn’t burn any ants with a magnifying glass as a kid. Which, in Gemma’s mind, makes him the perfect option for a sperm donor.

So Gemma wants to make a deal. An unemotional, businesslike arrangement. No commitments, just a baby.

To Gemma’s surprise, Josh agrees.

They have nothing in common, except their agreement to make a baby and their desire to keep things businesslike.

But the thing about baby-making…it’s hard to keep it businesslike, it’s nearly impossible to keep it unemotional, and it’s definitely impossible to keep your heart out of the mix. Because when you’re making a baby together, things have a way of starting to feel like you’re making other things, too - like a life, and a family, and love. And when the baby-making ends, you wish that everything else didn’t have to end, too.

Definitely recommend

I received the ARC for the security book in this series so I read this one ahead of it. I liked this novel. It has a little bit of everything. If you’re looking for a romantic novel that makes you go through all emotions this is one of them.

Super cute

Adorable! Gemma annoyed me at times but her growth was worth it. Josh was just amazing. And the supporting characters were perfection. It was eclectic, humorous, and really sweet. I could have used more steam but overall very enjoyable.

fun

Thank you GR friend Tina for recommending this fun audio! As Tina stated, “it was just what I needed”.

Gemma Jacobs is your basic workaholic who finds herself approaching her mid-thirties with no man in sight. She’s always wanted a baby, and she’s realizing she may never find a man to settle down with. She works for an egomaniac self-help guru who is a creep as well.

Gemma has only one man who she knows and trusts to ask if he’d be willing to be a sperm donner. Enter Josh Lewenthal, her brother’s BFF. She’s known him all her life. He’s been to all the family affairs and is a part of the family.

Gemma makes the proposition to Josh, a purely business proposition. Josh agrees and the silliness begins. Gemma becomes involved in a support group for women like her. What a hoot these women are.

Anyway, this is a beautiful escape which will have you giggling out loud. It’s a fun and delightful story, not too sappy (for me) and definitely hilarious.

Narrator Erin Mallon is fantastic.

Thank you Tina!!

Loved the story

Loved the story and the characters and the writing! All the major important character development happened right when we needed it to and didn’t lend to annoying characters who just never learn their lesson. The narrator sounds like some weird robot newscaster. Something about her cadence was really grating. I’d recommend reading over listening to this one!

Hit me in the feels

The book was pretty good. Easy to predict, but I didn’t pick this book because I wanted to be challenged. It was funny, aggravating, sometimes relatable, and even made me cry. I enjoyed the book and the narration too, except for the men voices. They weren’t the greatest, but It didn’t ruin the storytelling.
Overall I would recommend and am even going to look for more books by this author.

Absolutely HAVE to buy this book!

I cant believe this is the authors first book on Audible! What a gem (pun intended) of a story. Erin Mallon was the most perfect narrator for this one. She was originally why I purchased but Josh and Gemma are what kept me with it. Absolutely use a credit, you’ll be VERY happy you did. I cant wait to see what other stories the author has up her sleeve.

Fun story, bad narrator

Fun, light hearted, at times hysterical book.
Unfortunately ruined by the narrator. The narrator ended each sentences with a drawn out, over emphasized last syllable of every word of every sentence. So annoying!

Omg this book was soooo good, but what is up with that freaking cliffhanger?!?! Do not do this to me!!! So rude to leave us all wondering like that.
