About this listen
Deacon Cole and the rest of Patrol Easy hoped that they had seen their last combat for a while, but they soon find themselves in the first wave during the invasion of the Philippines in October 1944. They witness the bold military leader General Douglas MacArthur wading ashore even as Japanese bullets still fly. After taking the beach, they return to Hill 522 to help knock out the enemy bastion there. Deke soon joins a patrol fighting its way across Leyte island in an effort to link up with US forces that have a toehold on the opposite shore.
All that stands between Deke and the American outpost are miles of jungle, mountains, monsoon rains, fanatical Japanese troops, and an enemy sniper with a grudge. What could go wrong?

June 6, 1944. On the dawn of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, two snipers find themselves fighting a battle all their own. One is a backwoods hunter from the Appalachian Mountains in the American South, while the other is the dreaded German "Ghost Sniper" who earned his nickname on the Eastern Front. Locked in a deadly duel across the hedgerow country of France, the hunter matches wits and tactics against the marksman, both of them one bullet away from victory or defeat as Allied forces struggle to gain a foothold in Europe.

While tasked with fighting the enemy, G.M. Davis made some great friends but saw too much death. Story
On the killing ground that was the island of Guadalcanal, a 2,000-yard-long ridge rose from the jungle canopy. Behind it lay the all-important air base of Henderson Field. And if Henderson Field fell, it would mean the almost certain death or capture of all 12,500 marines on the island. But the marines positioned on the ridge were no normal fighters - they were the hard-fighting men of Edson's Raiders, an elite fighting unit within an already elite Marine Corps.

Story
When it first appeared, A Rumor of War brought home to American readers, with terrifying vividness and honesty, the devastating effects of the Vietnam War on the soldiers who fought there. And while it is a memoir of one young man's experiences and therefore deeply personal, it is also a book that speaks powerfully to today's students about the larger themes of human conscience, good and evil, and the desperate extremes men are forced to confront in any war.
