About this listen

After tirelessly climbing the ranks of her Chicago-based interior design firm, Lane Kelley is about to land her dream promotion when devastating news about her brother draws her back home - a quaint tourist town full of memories she'd just as soon forget. With her cell phone and laptop always within reach, Lane aims to check on her brother while staying focused on work - something her eclectic family doesn't understand.

Ryan Brooks never expected to settle down in Harbor Pointe, Michigan, but after his final tour of duty, it was the only place that felt like home. Now knee-deep in a renovation project that could boost tourism for the struggling town, he is thrilled to see Lane, the girl he secretly once loved, even if the circumstances of her homecoming aren't ideal.

Their reunion gets off to a rocky start, however, when Ryan can't find a trace of the girl he once knew in the woman she is today. As he slowly chips away at the walls Lane has built, secrets from his past collide with a terrible truth even he is reluctant to believe. Facing a crossroads that could define his future with Lane and jeopardize his relationship with the surrogate family he's found in the Kelleys, Ryan hopes Lane can see that maybe what really matters has been right in front of her all along - if only she'd just look up.

A Clean Romance

The story was enjoyable although predictable and I appreciated that there wasn't anything sexually explicit. In fact, there wasn't sex in the story at all.

Cute, easy read. Annoying narration

What I liked: the basic cute story line. Easy listen for Travel, household chores, and walks. The story did remind me at times of Things Left Unsaid.
What I didn’t like: the narration was basically good, but a few characters voice grated on me. The only female voice that wasn’t sickening sweet or simpering and frail was Lanes. I just could not with Dotty’s voice - It made me dislike her character and dread her dialogue. And the little boy’s voices sounded 3 years younger than their supposed ages and we’re equally annoying.

Beautifully pure

The element of pureness in the story is unmatched by any other author! I hung on every word, and I absolutely loved it!

Look up, Let Go, Live, Love

I really liked this story. I appreciate the message of looking up and seeing what you really have. Of being more than your job and work accomplishments.
I thought Lane dwelled in the hurts of her past too long. Yes, she was bullied, and suffered a terrible betrayal. She locked herself up and locked everyone out. Everything but work.
It took quite a while and a lot of grace from others before she could move on.
Brooks had his own past to deal with. He let people in, to a point.
It was very nice to see these childhood friends help each other overcome their troubles.
I think Ryan Brooks was my favorite character.
I would love to read another Harbor Point story. There are some great characters that deserve their own story.
The narrator did a really good job. Especially portraying the emotions.

Lovely story

What a sweet book with dynamic characters, conflicting motivations, and complicated back stories. I found each character relatable in one way or another and easy to root for!

Wonderful Story and Narration!

I loved this book so much. I had read it a few years ago and then decided to purchase the audio book. I am so glad I did. It was a joy to listen to and I got chills at the end of the story because of the wonderful ending. The narrator did a great job bringing this beautiful story to life.

Excellent story

Very entertaining. No profanity. Great characters that seem like your own family. The telling of the story was very easy to follow.

Sweet romance, but disappointing subplot

The main romance was sweet, and I enjoyed it. I just really disliked the way the main character just kept being a doormat to her family and ex fiance. None of them had real consequences for their awful actions, Lane just let them get away with it? Come on. It really bugged me, enough that I probably won't listen to another of the author's books.
