About this listen

From the wonderfully romantic and creative pen of Debra Mullins, here is an exciting and sensuous tale about two people who overcome a dark past to find an everlasting love.

The groom: Rogan Hunt has no need for a wife. After a stint in prison, he is only concerned with rebuilding the coffers of his estates. But then the Duke of Belvingham makes him an offer only a fool would refuse.

The bride: Lady Caroline Ware is horrified when her father arranges her marriage with a man said to have a wild temper and an even wilder reputation. But the Duke is dying, and Caroline has no choice but to agree.

The marriage: Caroline could not have imagined that her husband would be so tender, so warm, so sensual. Rogan was expecting a meek and timid wife, but instead Caroline is vibrant, charming, and passionate. Will this marriage turn into something they have secretly hoped it would be? Or will the real reason behind it finally come to light, destroying them both?

Could have been better

The book was good, but the narrator made the characters come off as whiny throughout the book. I almost quit listening a few different times due to the narration.

Great story and reader!

I started to bypass this book because “A KAREN” complained about the reader. Please don’t skip this book or reader. I don’t know what Karen’s problem was maybe something personal but her review was incorrect. I absolutely enjoyed JILLY BOND’s performance. I have been looking for an author to use my credits on for over three years. I have been with Audible since 2004. This author continues to fill the gap after Nora Roberts and Stephanie Laurens have slowed their publications. The book is a hit. Tragic and yet real. Try it.

wrong narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I would change the narrator

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was good and wrapped up the story nicely.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jilly Bond?

My favourite is Rosalyn landor. I wish she could read every audio book set in England. This narrator is too dramatic and over-wrought in how she reads. She can make a grocery list sound like a murder mystery! She also made the heroine sound alittle too much like a child, especially during the love scenes, which was disturbing.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I can't tell if it was the narrator or the story. I was just so put off by the reading I could not really think about the plot.It was okay, but not great. I can't think of how to improve this story, as it had a lot of elements, but nothing that really touched me.

Any additional comments?

I am going to try another book by this author, but not the narrator. I want to give the author the benefit of the doubt regarding the writing.
