Pleasantly surprised

I have read most of Lisa Kleypas’ books and love almost all of them (a few exceptions). I wanted to start this series but resisted due to the negative reviews on the narration. I ended up picking it up when it was on sale so decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did! The narrator is not terrible! I didn’t mind her at all.

That being said…it is not my favorite but not at the bottom of my Kleypas books list either. Great premise but dragged a bit. I didn’t have any trouble putting it down to get things done, unlike most of her books when I stay up all night just to finish. I have the next two books ready to listen to but I also see they are about to be re-recoded by Rosalyn Landor. Not sure if I want to hold off of not yet.

In any case - don’t let the negative reviews of the narrator hold you back from giving this one a try.

A bit predictable

Author certainly tied up the outstanding bullet point for the storyline. No surprises there. No cliff hanger…no apparent sequel part 2. Yawn…

Here to take up for the narrator!

I don’t get it, in fact I have added her to my list of favorite narrators. She was great, her MFC voice was sweet and soothing, her side character voices were great, and her MMC voice was dropped just enough to not sound so feminine but didn’t sound hoaky or nasally as some do which can be very distracting. One of the most popular narrators, I won’t name names because I’m not out to hurt feelings, but her male voices always sound so nasally and oooold I cannot get into them as a romantic lead, ew, I always pass on any book she narrates. But Anna was wonderful. The story itself was fun, as some will say the MC had bad motives that made him seem like a bit of a jerk but he genuinely cared for the FC as the story unfolded and I liked it.

Good Plot and Mystery

I was not a huge fan of the hero in this one. In fact I really didn't like him until the end. I loved the story though and it keeps you guessing at the outcome.
It was steamy...but not as much as the 2nd and 3rd in the trilogy.

The Trilogy is worth it. The narration is not great - but deal with it - Susan D is back for the last 2 books.

Worth it!

Not my favorite Kleypas...

I accidentally started this series backwards and this novel was by far my least favorite. It was dull and way too descriptive about characters, to the point where I found myself zoning out. Also, I agree with the other members that the narration was not good nor consistent. I would skip right over this and start with Lady Sophias Lover!

Great Surprises and Narrator

I was worried about this one because of the reviews, but I LOVED the narrator. She’s much different than the audiobook voices that I’m accustomed to, but that change made the story feel more intense and fresh. The mysteries of the heroine are super fun. I only wish it hadn’t been the first in the series; it would have been fun to see Grant solving crimes and flirting with other women as a side character.

enjoyable.Tender love story with likeable characters.

Liked the pace of the noval. Did not have a bunch of psycobable verbage to develop realistic characters.

Ugh I just can’t with the narrator

The narrator is not good and her voice is not varied enough between characters. Wish I had just read the book.

Yikes

I usually quite like this author but this was just bad. Predictable plot and very unlikeable main characters. I made myself finish but that felt more like a punishment than anything else.

Strong Engaging story and great performance

The story was interesting and easy to listen to. Not stressful. I liked the characters. They were well thought out.
