About this listen

Kara Tippetts's story was not a story of disease, although she lost her battle with terminal cancer. It was not a story of saying good-bye, although she was intentional in her time with her husband and four children. Kara's story was one of seeing God in the hard and in the good. It was one of finding grace in the everyday. And it was one of knowing "God with us" through fierce and beautiful friendship.

In Just Show Up, Kara and her close friend, Jill Lynn Buteyn, write about what friendship looks like in the midst of changing life seasons, loads of laundry, and even cancer. Whether you are eager to be present to someone going through a difficult time or simply want inspiration for pursuing friends in a new way, this eloquent and practical audiobook explores the gift of silence, the art of receiving, and what it means to just show up.

For those who are afraid to grow community

This is a very inspiring book about "big love" as Kara puts it. About growing community amidst doubts, fears and incompetence. About not having all the answers. We were created to be relational and yet so many of us do not have those deep relational needs met in our churches. This book written about how a community of "big love" came about through the suffering of one person will encourage you to want what God gave them as each person took that step forward to be used to God's glory. There are many, many examples and ideas in the book of how to support and help someone who is suffering. Ideas that would help someone like myself, who is often unsure of what to do, to take a step forward and show up. I would highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially those who have a loved one going through a hard trial and also, yes, also those who are going through the trial. Because it is also about how to suffer well and let people in allowing God to build community through your hard. The only draw back was I do wish they had done the audio with different voices for Jill and Kara. There were a few times I was confused as to which of the two was writing. If they had I would have given it a straight up 5 stars. Even so it is a book I will listen to again when the next need arises amongst my friends and acquaintances.

Becoming a God Mother because of cancer

I loved the courageous spirits who fought this battle, how they banded together to create family, supported each other, ebbed and flowed together, and gave more than practical tips on how to fight this battle together. Whether beating to remain with family for more years or defeating it in Heaven's glory 'Just Show Up' is a valuable resource and comfort. If you are fighting cancer or know and love someone who is this is a mist read.
