About this listen

Egypt, 2035 BC... In a land steeped in myth and superstition, a raid on a small village leaves a young boy, Khu, its only survivor. Fate paves a strange and mystical path through dark and uncertain times, when the split powers of Upper and Lower Egypt compete for sovereignty over a realm plagued by instability, rebellion, and fear.

Two kings and their kingdoms battle over one dream - a dream threatened by shifting allegiances and foreign invasion.

Khu is a story of a boy who becomes a warrior amid tragedy and triumph. It is a tale of virtue, vice, and valor, where the destiny of a divided nation is inextricably linked to that of the boy Khu, in the struggle to restore Egypt to a unified and glorious kingdom.

Overall a so-so story. One dimensional and no back story development about the characters. The narrator is terrific and was a great asset to the telling of this tale. An interesting quick read on a long drive.

A good Egyptian tale

Any additional comments?

Jocelyn Murray”s fantastic look at ancient Egypt is rich in detail and historically accurate in many ways. The story of the boy Khu is filled with many life lessons and is recommended reading, or in my case, listening for all ages. So nice to find a book that doesn’t rely on dragons or fancifully characters to tell a story. Khu gives us a realistic feel for difficult, often frightening times experienced by the ancient Egyptians. The narration by Michael Troughton is expert. Khu was enjoyable start to finish.

Excellent story telling

An intriguing plot was wounded by inadequate story telling. Although initially excited by the story line, much of the book feels more like recounting historical facts than a story, with stretches of description and lists of names that did not lend themselves to an audio book. Certain key sections had some literary spark and color, but the rest felt like filler, even if some was vital to the story.

The narration seemed good enough, but didn't particularity shine. Maybe it was the book? I'd be willing to listen to another book by M. Troughton, but not another by J. Murray.

A bit dry, like the desert sand
