About this listen

A nerdy wallflower recruits her athlete roommate to give her love lessons.

As a Highland Games athlete and firefighter, I’m used to women trying to get under my kilt. But I never expected to be propositioned by my bookworm roommate.

Casey’s one of my best friends and my buddy’s younger sister. What am I supposed to do when she confesses that she’s on a mission to lose her virginity—and I’m the guy she trusts to do the deed?

If I say no, she’ll only turn to another dude instead. Someone’s got to keep her out of trouble, so I agree to give her some hands-on experience. A little friends-with-benefits action shouldn’t be a problem. I can teach Casey how to bring a man to his knees and still keep things platonic.

Uh, yeah. Small problem. The more boxes we check off on Casey’s lesson plan, the more I realize I’ve taught her too well.

Because the man she’s bringing to his knees is me.

Kilt to Order is a sizzling small-town brother's-best-friend rom-com that features a found family of muscly men in kilts, a spunky book-nerd virgin, a protective playboy roommate who agrees to be her love coach, and a guaranteed HEA for these two adorable friends to lovers.

Sweet and sexy

Kilt to Order is a feel-good breath of fresh air! Charming and sweet and chock full of tropes that are my veritable catnip. This book is just like a warm hug, a total comfort read that also is SO charming in audio. I’ve circled the Nix writer-verse but have to say this is one of my favorites of hers yet. The swoon factor is just the dreamiest, the heartfelt moment sparkle with emotive meaning, and the writing is sharp, witty, and engaging. Brought to life perfectly by narrators Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels.

Heroine Casey is a adorkable booknerd nearing her 30’s…and she’s also uttery inexperienced with men, V-card intact. She’s getting to the point where she’s just over her inexperience (and her sneezey nerves), so she turns to none other than her ultra sexy fireman roommate Gareth…who is not only also her brother’s best friend but a bit of a player. Which perhaps makes him the perfect “coach” to help Casey learn all about men. But can they keep feelings from creeping into their arrangement? (and are there KILTS?!

GARETH! I MEAN SWOON! THe way he is with Casey just melted my heart. He’s so great at making her feel comfortable, being patient, accepting her just as she is…and most of all, helping her find her groove. And there are a lot of layers to this man, much his grappling with in his past that has affected his self worth. Casey is so intensely relatable, especially to an introverted booknerd like me. She’s so adorably awkward, shy, and quirky, and she also wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s kind and caring and she really helps Gareth work through his “ish” even as he helps her work through her own. And their chemistry is somehow both effortless and evolving.

I also appreciated the self-awareness of the story- particularly as it relates to some genuine exploration (courtesy of Casey’s bestie) of virginity as a concept….one that has different meaning and impact for different people. While we have some more substantive moments emotionally, for the most part this is lighter and lower angst, a big old dose of relaxing serotonin. And the Crowders are loads of fun. A delightfully sweet and smile-inducing read!

Such a fun listen

Puffins and cows and kilts, oh my! This was my first book by Susannah Nix, and it was so much fun!

Casey Goodrich is our wonderfully bookish, 28-year-old, only-been-kissed-once-in-10th-grade heroine. She's finally reached the breaking point and is determined to find someone who can help give her a little boost in the experience category. Wanting someone she can trust, her sights are set on her brother's best friend, who also happens to be their roommate, Gareth Kelly. He also happens to be a rakishly handsome, firefighting playboy who dons a kilt to play in the Highland Games.

She offers him a deal. He help her with her little issue, and she helps him with some schoolwork. Easy peasy! They have such an easy friendship, but that friendship is tested when things heat up and threaten to become more. Gareth is so protective and considerate of Casey. He takes such good care of her, and I love that he loves her little quirks, like her love of all things puffin.

This was such a fun story, though I do wish we got a little more Highland Games action in it. I can never get enough of a men in kilts.

🎧: Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels did an amazing job at narration and embodying the characters. Callie really brought the sweet and awkward Casey to life, and Lee was wonderful as the wickedly sexy Gareth. I really enjoyed this audio.

Sweet friends to lovers

This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more. Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels did a great job of bringing Susannah Nix’s friends to lovers tale to life. Who doesn’t want to fall in love with a good friend? I couldn’t help but smile during the awkward moments because they felt genuine and real. Gareth was sweet and sexy and had the patience of a saint. It was enjoyable watching their relationship evolve and Casey’s self confidence take flight.

Friends to lovers!

Casey and Gareth were great friends so it was almost a given that they would do anything for each other. Even unwillingly be a bedroom tutor. Casey wants to experience life. She's tired of waiting for the right one to come along, but even moreso, she wants to be prepared. Gotta love a closet girl scout. I loved these two together. Their friendship was on solid ground so taking things to the next level was inevitable. Their chemistry and banter were spot on. Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels as the narrators were amazing. They brought Casey and Gareth to life, giving the characters personality and emotion. The combination of their voices with the well-written story gave me hours of pure entertainment!

I received an advance copy of the audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Love it!

Casey and Gareth

This was such a cute, funny and a little emotional story.
Gareth hunky fireman who has some issues from his past. Casey is the best friend's sister/ roommate who decided she wants him to take her virginity. I loved listening to this story. I think both authors did an excellent job telling it and giving the characters a voice emotions and all. One of my favorite parts is what her brother left in her shower. Look forward to reading or listening to more from this author.

Funny, sweet and heartfelt friends to lovers

The cover and blurb drew me and I absolutely loved this story. “Kilt to Order” is a funny, sweet and heartfelt friends to lovers romance that left me with a big smile on my face when I was done.

Casey is a self proclaimed bookworm and lives with her brother and his two friends. Casey is also a 28 year old virgin and is on the quest to get rid of it. Gareth is a firefighter and an avid competitor in their local Highland games. Casey knows what an attractive guy Gareth is and decides she wants to ask him to be the one to take her v-card. Gareth is thrown off at first but decides he wants to help her so she doesn’t find some random guy to be the one. But he tells her they’re going to take it slow so she can get the full experience. As the two spend time together, it’s clear that there is something more.

I was hooked from the first chapter and loved this story so much. Casey is so relatable to me and I connected with her right from the smart. Casey is genuine, kind and such a sweet woman. She cares deeply for her friends and her love of books and puffins. Gareth is so swoony and I loved him from the beginning. He was always concerned if Casey was safe and happy. His past was so sad and broke my heart but gave him the path to be a firefighter. They had a great friendship which progressed so naturally into a relationship. I loved all the teasing steamy scenes we got until they finally made it all the way. The ending was emotional and incredibly sweet for them. I hope we get more from the roommates, especially Casey’s brother.

Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels narrated this story and I loved listening to them bring this story to life. Callie brought all of Casey’s sweetness and genuine personality to life and I enjoyed her performance so much. Lee was so great as Gareth and I enjoyed him bringing the reluctant to love man to life. Callie and Lee were great together and I enjoyed this audio so much.

Cute, fun rom com

Kilt to Order was a sweet and steamy small town rom com. I absolutely adored Casey and Gareth friendship and how sweet and protective Gareth was for Casey. I loved the way she was able to break down the walls when he didn’t let anyone else in. These two couldn’t have been more opposite but they worked well together. This story will leave smiling and has plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Callie Dalton and Lee Samuels brought to life Casey and Gareth. Callie was able to capture Casey’s innocence and quirkiness and Lee Samuels brought out Gareth’s protective and caring personality. These two gave great performances bringing to life the story and characters.

Friends to lovers romcom with a perfect narration!!!

When I saw this book had the Highland Games in it, I had to give it a read as my husband is Scottish and we’ve actually been to multiple Highland festivals! It turned out to be an enjoyable storyline with low angst, great spice and just an easy to listen to romcom! Susannah Nix is a new to me author and I can’t wait to read more from her!

Casey is living with her brother and his best friends and at 28 years old, is just a book nerd who wants to finally lose her virginity. Who better to ask than her roommate and brother’s best friend, Gareth, who is also a hot firefighter! Gareth is the swooniest MMC as he is so caring towards Casey from the start and consistently throughout the story as their dynamic evolved. It was so sweet watching them develop but with the best detailed spicy lessons and scenes in between! This book also truly showcases the brother’s best friend trope with the sneaking around and the moment her brother friends out which I loved!! While I was hoping for a little more Scottish Highland Games content based on the cover, the scenes that were included were descriptive and well written!

The audio for this book is a dual narration performed Callie Dalton & Lee Samuels and it was such a sweet and easy listen!! They were truly perfect for Gareth and Casey and had me smiling and swooning the whole time I listened! Their voices just embodied the personalities of these characters and they truly brought that out in their tones from the lighthearted moments to the emotional ones. Also, Lee’s female voice and Callie’s male voice are my favorites and SO well done!!! They make each POV easy to listen to and that much more enjoyable! Overall, it was an enjoyable audiobook that I definitely recommend!

I was sent a free audiobook and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
