About this listen

Cadence "Cady" Bloomquist knows two things for sure: First, shelving books at her shop, Nevermore Bookstore, totally counts as cardio. Second, staying late every Thursday night to take a certain mysterious customer's order is not the same as waiting by the phone for some man. Until the calls with the man who identifies himself only as "Fox" last for hours, and become the highlight of her week. Which leaves her to wonder, if his velvet voice can kindle her fire over the phone, what sort of alchemy might it inspire if they met in person?

There's nothing Roman Fawkes wants more than the brilliant, beautiful bookstore owner, but he knows it can never happen. Secreted in his mountain hideaway above sleepy Townsend Harbor, his hermit's existence shields him—and those around him—from the pain of his past. Until one of their weekly calls is interrupted by a break-in, and Fawkes is powerless to protect the woman who has become his one link to the world. Orchestrating a trap for the fool who dared harm her, Fawkes finds himself not just ensnared, but beguiled by her. Now so close to Cady, he discovers she's fallen for "Fox", and yet he's unable to reveal her heart's desire is closer than she thinks. Can Fawkes resist the temptation to get between Cady's covers, knowing they'll never have a happily ever after?

Contains mature themes.

charming

first time reading either of these authors, and I really enjoyed the book. These characters were well developed and easy to love. Each having their own set of heartache and issues, each healing the other. I am a huge mountain man/hermit theme lover. I live for those heroes. This one had a twist. instead of the h getting stranded with him, he goes to her in the real world. The only thing able to force him from his solitude? Her safety. And with another twist, he doesn't go as himself, not wanting the h to know that the drifter helping her with her bookstore, is also the man she spoke with once a week, bonding over their love of fiction (escape). This is a must read for me. It has all the small town favorites, crazy old women, trouble maker, best friend, really fat cat, and 1 stuffed raven with 1 googly eye. Highly recommend.

Good, but a bit rambling

Story started out interesting and engaging but lost itself along the way. I enjoyed the female narrator but not the male one as much. Felt he overplayed it.

Realistic and interesting archetypes

The characters are very relatable and interesting. The performance between the two actors was awesome. I however was not expecting this to be a smut piece. Great story outside of those bits.

Relatable read to a degree

I never write reviews but I really liked this book. it wasn't your typical love story romance. it was realistic. its encouraging when the main characterisnt writen out to be a model and "looks" like a real person. talks about PTSD and chronic illness making it more relateable in todays world ♡ oh and some very good spice ;)definitely worth the read.

Nevermore for Loneliness, only Hope and Love

Author team Katherine Bryne and Cynthia St. Aubin did an amazing job of presenting hard topics like the MML Fox, having PTSD and experiencing war, to the MFL having a chronic illness. This was especially notable for me and my family, as the the MFL Cady has Ankylosing Spondilytis.

The narrators Teddy Hamilton and Stella Hunter did an amazing job. Teddy delivered the MML's trauma in a straight forward way, without indulging in putting too much emotion into certain parts, as that would have actually felt over done and disrespectful to the character. Stella did an amazing job in the same way, with the MFL and her chronic illness. Thank you for a great story and great performance of the story.

Give it time

This book took a few chapters to pull me in but once that happened I couldn’t put it down. There is definitely an air of mystery to the characters that takes quite some time to reveal itself but everything becomes clear by the end.
I’m interested to see if there will be more books in this series.

Nevermore Bookstore!

This was a wonderful audiobook. i loved the characters and the interesting storyline! A woman who inherited a bookstore and a man damaged by life. Can they help each other? Lots of funny moments and some tears! Very good narration.

Pretty good story

This book was pretty good. I enjoyed the characters and the disability representation with a MFC with an chronic autoimmune disease and a MMC with severe PTSD. It was nice to watch their journey from not trusting to figuring things out together.
