Critic reviews

"Filmed 70 years ago in stark black and white, King Kong still holds the force of its raw simplicity. More myth than monster, Kong suffers the fate of the classic tragic hero, destroyed by his own nobility. High-tech civilization overwhelms his primitive power. Beauty kills the beast." (Jack Williamson)

What fun

I read this at eight years old and, like then, the early parts on the island are still my favorite.

The end bits, after the story are worth the listen alone

The story is classic and great, but the end interviews are the best part in my opinion. Enjoyed it

King Kong

I truly enjoyed this movie tie on audible book with the original 1933 King Kong movie. It had a number of feed-ins from different actors, and even have and even how they did the animation.

A timeless classic

Truly a story that stands the test of time as evidenced by the fact that we have received so many versions of it. Nothing tops the original, someday maybe it will but as of right now the original it’s still a pinnacle of the story.

This is a good audiobook, I really do not have any complaints other than perhaps the narrator has such a distinct voice that it’s difficult to buy into the various characters when he changes his voice to be and arrow or some of the others. Overall the narrator does a great job, truly a good voice for the story.

The story has adventure, drama, romance, action and all of the culminates in the tragic ending where are you realize that truly beauty does indeed kill the beast.

Thoroughly Enjoyed However...

I enjoyed this novelization of the classic story and was delighted about the interviews after. one question though. Why did you interview Orson Scott Card? He clearly doesn't care for the movie or even the genre. His interview was just him talking about how he didn't get it, didn't get why people like it, and didn't even bother yo watch it more than once.

Nostalgic for the Film

Enjoyable rendition of the classic movie. Mostly a verbal description of the movie itself. It just made me wish I was watching the movie.
A few sequences that differ from the film were interesting. Narration made it an enjoyable listen, giving characters a unique voice.
Some of the narrative seemed forced to give it the sound of a novel, which having seen the movie, makes it a little awkward.
Overall, if you liked the film or loved it, as I do, it's worth a listen. However, it's an impossible task capture the raw power of the film, "King Kong".

A good adventure book.

I’ve been a King Kong fan my whole life. Not gonna lie, I watched the movies before I gave this book listen. As the story went on, I grew more appreciation for the 1933 and 2005 movies. They portrayed it so accurately. However, my one criticism is that the narrators voice was so scratchy, I found myself constantly clearing my OWN throat. With that said, it wasn’t enough to get me to walk away from it. I still think King Kong is a great adventure story.
