Story
In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

Fantastic reading. the movie was a great spectacle, but the book expands on the concepts and deeper lore of the Monsterverse. I hope to see future novelizations of the Monsterverse content, and would love to hear recordings of older Godzilla novelizations, as well.

More details than the movie
You need this book to appreciate what’s missing from the movie. More backstory on the human characters actually helps with filling most of the plot holes. Fun listen. Better than the previous book adaptation.

Just needs 20% more action.
An outstanding performance by Mr. Ferrone of a text that truly shines in the (sadly few) moments when it lets the reader inside the psyches of its monstrous characters. Overall, the only weak spots were the descriptions of combat - huge beats, such as the beam struggle between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla, are glossed over in a sentence or less, and the melding of Ghidorah’s lingering consciousness with an AI to create the story’s ultimate villain is only briefly touched on.

Great Novelization of the Film with Extras
I enjoyed the prior novelization Keyes did of the prior film. This book is just as good. With extra scenes that give insight and explain things that were glossed over or left out of the film, (which I loved). Characterization is great and the novel is fast paced. The fight scenes are exciting and you learn more about Hollow Earth and what happened to the other titans after the last film. You also learn more about several of the scientists and Monarchs efforts prior to the start of this film. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook. Richard Ferrone gave a great reading in a throaty story tellers voice.

Everything the film should have been
While the KOTM novelization was a carbon copy of the film, this one gives way more character development for both humans and titans. The film seemed rushed while this was a fleshed out story.
