About this listen

This is the story of an unforgivable con man. Vulnerable families were his prey. His promise was an impossible dream and a lie.

Peter Candlewood understood the system. That’s how he could commute prison sentences and reunite hopeless families with incarcerated loved ones. For a price. Except there was no Candlewood. No hope. Just a lowly Texas con artist who bet on the desperate - and won. And he wasn’t working alone. The multimillion-dollar deception cost the betrayed more than their savings.

Christie Thompson’s King of Dreams is part of Exposure, a collection of six incredible and true stories of American double lives from millionaire CEOs and suburban teens to undercover investigators and scam artists - all for whom secrets are a way of life. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single astonished sitting.

This was my first try at this collection. It's a really sad story that happened to parents with sons in jail. It was like a news report.

it was... informative?

This is a super quick listen, and it's well done but the only thing that upsets me is I can find NOTHING online about this. I found one news piece, and I just want more details into the background of this guy.

Well done

The beginning of the story was excellent right when the story for me start getting good for some reason it just started to fall flat just couldn't keep my interest however I did finish it and the end it did recover my interest. I do recommend this book but it's not my first choice.

This is part of the Amazon prime Exposure collection, and so far, out of the 4 I have read, I like this one the best. I found the con aspect of this heartbreaking, yet interesting; it was interesting to hear how they took a part of a federal law and used it for their own gain. I felt sorry for the victims in these cases; I can understand how they would have grasped at what appeared to be a lifeline to help their loved one.

It's an episode in the series. Good story and narration. Sometimes you just want to hear a bedtime tale:-)

Good Short Story

I enjoyed this article and performance. At around 40 min it’s a nice break and segue way into another Audible listen as I often miss what has just finished. The fact it’s true is frustratingly sad. I found myself wondering, if I was in the same position as the victims of this creeps crime, would I trust them to help get out of prison my incarcerated loved one? I think I’m too skeptical honestly.

I enjoy Angela Dawe as a narrative performer. This isn’t the first I’ve heard, I have many Audible books in my library performed by her.

Quick and informative
