About this listen

Lady Chatterley's Lover was the subject of one of the most infamous trials of the 20th century when Penguin was prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act. However, with expert witnesses for the defence, including E.M. Forster, Penguin was acquitted and permitted to publish in 1960. The book became a best seller largely on account of explicit scenes of a sexual nature and use of four letter words. However, re-reading again over 40 years later, one realises that although the sex scenes are still graphic even today, the book is about much more than sex. It covers love, class, disability, family relationships, infertility, politics, and that 'bitch-goddess' success.©2003 CSA Telltapes Ltd (P)2003 CSA Telltapes Ltd Classics Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction

This book caused much stir among readers for a good reason. Creative descriptions but a good plot as well. The author makes us feel for the protagonist and almost cheer for her. I would not recommend letting children read this.

Taboo for a reason

Maybe this book was really explicit and great in its day, but besides the porn scenes and descriptions of anatomy, I don't see what was so literarily great with this novel. I suppose if you are interested in it from the historical viewpoint, if you want to know why this was a highly sought after and critically publicized banned book in the early twentieth century then take a listen.

I don't know

I know this is a classic and I really wanted to like it. But I disliked the main characters. I found them to be shallow and boring and couldn't wait for the book to be over. :(

Boring Book, Shallow Characters

Although well done and read, the cheat version of DH Lawrence's classic can never stand up to the novel as originally penned.
