About this listen

We can't let the wild win.

Despite everything I've done, my kingdom is falling apart. To overturn the murderous sorcerers determined to remake the realm into something wild and cruel, we must rely an unexpected heir to the throne.

But the first fault lines started dividing our country centuries ago. We can't reach toward the past for absolution.

The men I love and the allies we've gathered will have to build a new future. And I'd sacrifice anything to know I've finally set things right... even my hard-won happiness.

It's time to find out whether I'm worthy of staying in this world I've fought so desperately to save.

*Lady of Doom and Devotion is the fourth and final book in a new fantasy romance series full of forbidden magic, impossible love, hot damaged men, and a rebellious heroine who's so much more than she imagines.*

At least it was a happy ending for Ivy

I listened to the audio version of this book, and all the others in the series, so I'm not going to try to figure out how all the names are spelled. Ivy will be pushed to her limits and her guys will stand by her side. The heir to the throne is a bit of a shock and a not-so-welcome 'woke' surprise which I, for one, could have done without. But once I got over the here-we-go-again eye roll and just accepted it as a plot twist, I managed to get through the rest of the book without kicking anything.

Though I don't mind the occasional 'don't go into the dark basement alone' moments, I find myself trying to avoid the current overly dramatic multi-book series that can't seem to find their way out of that dark emotional maelstrom moments. This series borders on that and I'm hoping for lighter atmosphere in Eva's next endeavor, but I'm likely to be disappointed. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Great finish to the series!

I love the action and overall plot in this series (including this book), but the characters are what I've really fallen for. I thoroughly enjoyed this final book and feel like we were given a send-off worthy of the fantastic characters. We got all the loose ends tied up and a "happily ever after", but I do hope we get some cameos with them in the future series set in this world.

Again, the narration was done very well. 5/5 stars for both narrators! They were a great fit for this series.

What would you choose?

In the end, Ivy is presented with a choice. I would challenge you to decide what you would have chosen. This last installment is action-packed with plenty of danger. Knowing the true puppet master, Ivy and the guys have their hands full, establishing the monarchy in favor and, at times, despite the people. Beautifully narrated.

Lady of Doom and Devotion

Lady of Doom and Devotion by Eva Chase is the final instalment in an exciting why-choose fantasy romance and brings to close the Rites of Possession series. The story picks up from where the earlier book left off with Ivy in the clutches of the leader of The Order of the Wild.

Eva's books are always so well-written and narrated that if you close your eyes whilst listening you are there with the characters able to see and feel everything they do! I was hooked throughout this entire series, annoyed as each book finished knowing I had to wait for the next one to be published. The characters are all well-drawn and interesting and I enjoyed getting to know each of the guys Stavros, Casimir, Rheave, Aleksi and just like Ivy I would have found it impossible to choose between them, each brought something different to the table. Ivy of course didn't have to choose and I love how they all blended into one perfect unit and how supportive the four very different men were of each other and Ivy. I like that we get to hear their points of view throughout the book. It enabled me to get to know each of them and brought them and the story to life.

This is a non-spoiler review so I'm not going to reveal any of the plot but what I will say is that I enjoyed the story very much and found myself immersed in the action and intrigue woven through the plot. The love shared by Ivy and the guys shines through and the narration by Michelle Sparks and Jason Clarke brought every character to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I am excited that there is to be a spin-off series, The Royal Spares and look forward very much to listening to the first book A Game of Veils, the eBook is to be released in September 2024 and I hope that audio version is available soon after.

I would recommend this series to all fans of fantasy why choose romance and slow-burn romance.

Good Ending!

I thought that it was a good ending. I was happy with how everything turned out. It’s just amazing to me how this author creates the stories that she does. The narration was good as well.

Epic ending

Overall Thoughts: There is so much you learn and get clarity on in the book, and it is a really nice way of putting a bow on this series. Everything comes together, and as always, Eva gives you a HEA. This was my first romantasy series by Eva, and while it wasn’t my favorite series by her, it was the best written of all her series I’ve listened to so far. Michelle does an emailing job bringing Ivy to life, and I don’t even have to say how talented Jason Clarke was as all of Ivy’s men.

Narration: Dual narration, first-person present tense, multiple-POV with a multiple flashbacks

Tropes: friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, secret life, academy, grumpy/sunshine, reverse harem, noble and commoner, military, fighting to save the world, fantasy

Overall: 4

Spice: 3

Humor: 1

Drama: 4

Darkness: 2

This picks up where book 3 left off, and there will be spoilers if you have not read/listened to the first 3 books in the series. Ivy is a fighter and when she finds out what she was taken, she does everything in her power to stop it, if for not other reason that to prove to herself she can.

When her men find her, they find out they have a new challenge. Not only do they need to defeat the Order of the Wild, who are moving closer and closer to their goal of controlling the country, but now they must directly protect the royal family.

By gathering all the people they can, who want to take down the Order of the Wild, a plan comes together that will prove to everyone who the true ruler is. A long-forgotten tradition will help determine the future of the country, and Ivy will stop at nothing to make sure the best person takes the crown.

Jason and Michelle did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I am so excited for the spin off series The Royal Spares. I can't wait for the first book A Game of Veils to be released on September 10, 2024.
