About this listen

Some crimes have no punishment. Some battles never end. Five years ago, successful architect Wade Benson killed a young woman when he fell asleep at the wheel. His punishment: two days in jail for every year of his probation. But for one friend of the victim’s family - an ex-marine named Darryl Potter - this punishment isn’t enough. Potter sets out to even the score by kidnapping Benson’s 20-year-old daughter. It’s a bad, bad plan, and only Mike Barlowe, Potter’s former combat buddy, knows how to stop it. With a beautiful news reporter, the cops, and a bounty hunter on Potter’s tail, Barlowe races to head off his troubled friend before innocent people get hurt. The hunters and the hunted plunge north into Minnesota’s Lake Country, each with their own ambitions and demons, each headed for a violent collision - and for one horrifying moment of life or death.

So many twists!!

From the start of this book, you think you are listening to one kind of genre. Throughout the 8+ hours, it becomes another type, and then another - all of them good.

This was a mystery thriller whodunnit with no clear capable good guy. The white hat is there but it's askew. There were some wonderful twists and turns with the story told from several POV's. That only helped keep the story real and intense. Great narration as well!

Surprise read!

I downloaded this book without reading the reviews. I just wanted a book to listen to on a long drive. It was very good! Kept you guessing what would happen next! I liked it!

Never a dull unnecessary detail

At first I didn't like the narration. It was hard to pay attention. The reading was like listening to a monotonous grocery list but after the opening episodes introducing the characters and their links, it moved right along and KEPT moving.

Let down

The story built well, but the choppy ending was a complete let down. The plot behind the story line was a complete dud and really felt as if it had no relevance to what happened. The performance was great but the character development and relationships between characters was poor.

Lake country

Sometimes I got a little lost, but I was listening to the audio version and got distracted by things going on in my home. Overall I found the book entertaining and exciting.

Good story

The narrator was great . The story was really good and made you like certain characters very much , to the point of worrying about their safety . I will seek out more of the Authors work .

Boring, predictable, and bad narration

I hope you don’t like surprises because this piece of fluff has none of them. You know who did it and why and what everyone else’s motivations are from the get go. Boring. Boring. And the narrator sounds like he’s got a pile of rocks in his mouth the whole time. Skip it.
