Publisher's summary

It is an obsession that has haunted Nick Malick for seven years - to avenge the murder of his young son. In his gut Malick knows who did it. But the psychopath is in prison for another crime, scheduled to be released in a year. All Malick has to do is wait...and survive.

The tragedy cost Malick his marriage and his career. Now he scrapes by as a PI in the blue-collar town of Cain City, West Virginia. His latest case tasks him with finding a young woman gone missing. Seems simple enough. But when his investigation exposes a link between a corrupt police force and a drug gang from Detroit, Cain City explodes. And Malick finds himself dead center.

Turns out when there's no one to trust and a whole lot of people want you dead, survival and revenge aren't so easy.

Cash City is Jonathan Fredrick's debut novel, heralding a tough new voice in crime fiction.

4.42 stars.....dark but somehow still funny

Ari Fliakos is the best narrator on Audible. He is the reason I downloaded Cash City, that and the fact it was a Daily Deal. I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author, Jonathan Fredrick, wrote a good story here. It should be dark, considering the subject matter, but somehow the humor combined with Fliakos' narration style makes the story fun to listen to. I recommend this to anyone looking for an engaging story that will keep your attention from beginning to end. The story falls off a little in the second half, but this is a minor dip. There's a lot to like about this one.

Ari Fliakos had a killer performance!

The story was great, but Ari's performance of each character made this a must listen. Cash City delivered. Well written by J. Frederik.

Wow - Best Detective Thriller in years - Get this!

This is an unbelievable book. Terrific story, just when you think things are over there is new twist. The narrator is great on par with Scott Brick, Will Patton, etc this had you right up to the end. The detective in this book is a hard-a** Harry Bosch type with an edge to him, not quite Jack Reacher but almost. I was so sad that it was only 9 hours and really sad that I could not find another book by this author. Interestingly, if you search for books under the narrator's name you will find that most are > 4.2 stars.

bottom line - Get this book you will not be disappointed.

First Audible

This the first audible I have finished. I'm a hard back novel only reader. I tried other audibles but didn't care for the concept. Cash City has changed that. The story was well written & held your interest making you want to "turn the page" to see what Nick was going to do next. When's the next one Mr Fredrick?

Awesome Twists

I love murder mysteries and this lived up to being an Audible Original.

It had great story lines and some twists I didn't expect. I'm glad I took a risk on an Original. It's definitely worth giving a listen too!

Exciting new author

This audible was a total home run! Out of the ball park! I loved the main character. He was a PI, ex police detective, who was shrewd and intelligent. After losing his son to a pedophile, he gave up everything else in his life in order to obtain revenge. The story was enthralling and sucked me in at the very beginning. I really hope this is going to become a series because I need more Nick Malick!! Also, I have to say the narrator, Ari Fliakos was brilliant! I’m pretty sure I would listen to him read a grocery list!

Relatable Characters, Tragic Backstory.

This story breathes new life into the waning hard boiled detective drama. The author did an excellent job with the character development of the protagonist and those that matter most to him. The element of vengeance and the control it can have over the strongest-willed of people is examined in immediate and premeditated fashons. Trust is hard-earned and hard-given. Time is short and hard choices must be made and materialized. Seemingly small mistakes can have ferocious consequences. Great listen.

Very good!

Quite original story, with an introspective main character, well-developed additional characters, plenty of action, deception and plot twists. EXCELLENT writing, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. At moments, sad, funny, and surprising. Authentic dialogue and spot-on narration. I highly recommend this book -- I could not stop listening, and finished it in one day.
