Publisher's summary

A sexy, swoony romance from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jessie Evans.

Cowboy bikers, fireworks, and romance, oh my....

Wild girl Mia Sherman has a secret - she isn't as fearless as she pretends. Descended from Lonesome Point, Texas's founding family, Mia grew up hearing tales of an old Irish curse that had followed the Shermans to America. At age 24, Mia is still terrified of the stories, because they aren't stories. They are a warning about what will happen if Mia allows love and romance into her life. The curse struck Mia's grandmother and her great-great-whatever grandmother, and Mia knows she could be next. The first-born daughter of every generation is cursed to lose her husband on her wedding night, which is one of the many reasons Mia has sworn off relationships.

Until the fateful day Sawyer Kane rides his Harley into her life...

Rancher turned restoration expert Sawyer Kane can't believe his luck when the feisty owner of the lingerie shop next to his hotel turns out to be the curator of his latest project, a ghost town he's been sent to restore. He's looking forward to long, hot days talking history, and hotter nights with Mia, but the redhead with the killer smile seems determined to keep him at a friendly distance. But when a dangerous man from Mia's past arrives in town, Sawyer finds himself drawn into her inner circle, and into the legend of Lonesome Point itself.

Can true love conquer all, even a centuries-old curse? Mia and Sawyer may be the first to find out.

Get ready for some hot Texas nights...

I started my Jessie Evans fangirling with her small town sweet romances. She writes such great characters and small towns that it was only a matter of time before I caved and snapped up her Lonesome Point, Texas series books. I'm not really into the whole Texas or cowboy thing but sometimes I'll make an exception with an author I love already or a plot element that's hard to resist. I'm thrilled to find that while LEATHER AND LACE is far more suspenseful and very steamy, it's just as enjoyable as previous Evans' books I've read.

I think that—like most romance readers—I have a special spot in my heart for heroes with a sad back story. There's something about seeing a guy who has had a tough life become a courageous, gentle man instead of a thug. Sawyer could so easily have become that. He's a big bald guy who rides a motorcycle and wears a Stetson and I found him surprisingly sweet and gentle. Mia's so full of sass it's a wonder any guy could get past her emotional defenses—'cause she's had her own bumpy past when it comes to relationships. Together they just combust.

I actually wound up snagging the audiobook for L&L because it was a steal since I owned the Kindle copy already. If you're an audio reader I think it's a great listen. I almost died of red-face though because I was listening without headphones and it got to the first love scene—which was pretty long and very dialog-heavy—and my husband got to hear the whole scene. If you love a high-heat romance I'm pretty sure my husband's disgusted reactions to the male narrator reading the scene are an indication you'll enjoy it. lol

If you're into romantic suspense genre, there is a mystery and a suspense element to the overall story, but I'll admit I wasn't expecting them based on the blurb and they were kind of meh to me. I just wasn't feeling them, kinda felt a little like they detracted from the small-town romance mood in a way that just didn't work for me. But, if you dig the genre you might love it, it's just not my thing outside of the paranormal shelves.

Overall, it was a terrific read on audio but I think I would have been just as happy reading it myself. I'm really looking forward to diving into SADDLES AND SIN as well as DIAMONDS AND DUST because I adored Bubba and Tulsi as secondary characters. If you wind up rooting for secondaries to get their own books I definitely recommend picking up the HOT TEXAS DAYS box set which features the first three books in the series!

Great Start To the Lonesome Point, TX, series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to a friend. Jessie Evans books are go-tos for me, and I love every single one of them. This new series is hot and sexy, and the addition of the mystery, along with the love story, is a winner.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Leather and Lace?

I loved Mia's and Sawyer's first time together. Also, the part of the book where Paul came back for Mia was heart-pounding, and added a great edge to the story.

What does Mikael Naramore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's always interesting hearing a narrator's take on characters. His voice for Tulsi was one of my favorites.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I just loved the whole thing. There are happy, sad, scary, and sexy moments, and they are all wonderful.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor and sensitivity of both Sawyer and Mia. Two people who have experienced bad past relationships, who aren't looking for serious but find forever in the other! Plus you had some suspense and mystery thrown in!

Curses and love.

What did you like best about this story?

The love story and family closeness.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did.

Any additional comments?

This was a good love story about two people who didn't want to settle until they became friends with benefits, and then fell in love. Her history with abuse kept her from admitting her love and using a family curse as the excuse. However he didn't' let any of it hold him back, his patience had his reward.

Mia and Sawyer were rather explosive together

A very pleasant listen. The narrator was good and the story was better. I liked the potential paranormal aspects to the story. As in every day life, this leaves one wondering. Added a nice touch to the story. Never mind that Mia and Sawyer were rather explosive together. Very nice. I look forward to the other stories in this series.

Welcome to Lonesome Point!

Any additional comments?

Leather and Lace is highly entertaining and sexy romance, featuring a mischievous lingerie owner and the hot, cowboy stranger in town. The story also has a paranormal aspect that was unexpected from a romance but worked well. The narrator did a great job, but I tend to prefer male voice performances. All-in-all a great book and I can't wait to get my hands (ears) on book two.
