A Warhammer 40,000 Drukhari Audiobook

Lelith Hesperax is the Queen of Knives – the greatest of Commorragh's wyches, and the deadliest gladiator in the galaxy. Now she returns to the Dark City, to slice her way through tangled webs of deception...

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Follow the legendary grand succubus as she finds herself dragged back to Commorragh and enveloped once more within the twisted plots of Asdrubael Vect.

THE STORY

In the darkest corners of the webway lies the city of Commorragh. Home to the sadistic drukhari, millions are butchered upon its arenas’ sands to slake their terrible thirst for blood. The greatest of these butchers is Lelith Hesperax – the Queen of Knives, and the deadliest gladiator in the galaxy.

Lelith abandoned the Dark City to walk alongside the nomadic death cultists of Ynnead, and in her absence from Commorragh, pretenders to her blood-soaked crown have arisen.

When a blade strikes at Lelith from the shadows, she is pulled back to Commorragh, and into the murderous games of the Living Muse himself – Asdrubael Vect. As his schemes coil around her, the Queen of Knives finds herself ensnared once more in Vect’s terrible web, and this time, mere blades may not be enough to cut her free.

Excellent non-standard 40k fare

This title avoids many of the typical "bolter porn" pitfalls that hold back so many 40k works. A thematic, suspenseful tale that all Drukhari and Ynnari fans should thoroughly enjoy.

A Decent look at Lelith

I've been a dark eldar fan for a long time, and have always quite liked lelith as a character. A direct, brutal sword strike to the cloak and daggers most of commoragh runs on. That said, i was kind of dissapointed in this book for a few reasons, despite how much i overall enjoyed it. I felt that while it captured her more direct and brutal means it didn't have very much of substance that i haven't seen elsewhere as a fan of the drukhari, commoragh and alot of other aspects. She seems to also waver here and there in motivation, but those are my two complaints. The action, descriptions and narration are all supremely done and flow well together, and the book keeps up a good pace and doesn't overstay it's welcome. To those looking for a decent story on lelith hesperax and some of the conniving and various factions of the eldar, this is a fun book well done in most aspects. But for those wanting a more deep dive into the dark eldar themselves it's a tad shallow.

The highlight for sure is the well done action scenes and fights. They are quick, brutal and to the point. The narrator is good if a tad too soft spoken and not as suited for 40k as she could be.

an unexpected delight

this is my first time diving into the elves in any way.
especially the dark elves.

but this story gave a good look in the dark elf society as well as a glimpse into a character that has apparently been around for a while but I have just now discovered, that being the queen of knives herself.

this book definitely makes me want to look for more like it and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

the only downside is I had to look up a lot of terminology since I'm used to mostly the space Marine faction and their books.

the voice acting was superb, completely enthralling ((though she does have some trouble with the male characters))

all and all a fantastic read that I would highly recommend.

Drukari

I like the look in drukari dark city. but I must say, on one book that will bring some new look in Warhammer they are 3 that just repeating the same old narrative.

drama

Felt a bit high-school drama. I mean OK dark elves are petty so that's fine I guess.

Funny in a Morbid Way, GoodNarration!

I really enjoyed this shorter story! More lore about the Drukhari is always interesting and it is delivered with good narration! The VA stumbles over her lines sometimes, almost like she was about to swallow something but she's still nice to listen to. Also, more Votann appearances!

Mike Brooks one of the best 40K writers

Mike Brooks continues to make varied aspects of the 40K universe fun and interesting with characters atypical to many other 40K books and authors.

Mike brooks on a roll

Honestly seemed like a great introduction to drukhari. They tossed in Yvraine, Vect, horror/torture elements around commoragh. I’ve yet to see Mike brooks book that isn’t a fun adventure.

Quite the well done story

Lelith is simultaneously pretty deep here, but as shallow as I had hoped. and in combat she rival Gotrek with how utterly a force of nature she is

Hail to the Queen!

Outstanding! I came in with high hopes and Mike Brooks delivered once again and provides us with a fascinating look at one of the most interesting characters from the galaxy's most perfidious race. Lelith Hesperax provides us not only an unparalleled look at both her inner thought processes through the political strife and machinations of Cammoragh, but also provides a glimpse of Drukhari culture on the whole, and even sprinkles in more Votann screentime than I've seen GW allow in any other book. Definitely worth the price of admission, and the story doesn't overstay it's welcome. My only complaint is that it left me wanting more, and if that's my only complaint in a book that features a Faction I actively dislike, then Brooks certainly did something miraculous. Buy this book, you won't regret it. Warhammer 40k Xenos literature at its best here.
